Drake Maye is 3.8, highest is 1st, lowest is 6th
Jayden Daniels is 21.3, highest is 8th, lowest is 71st
Michael Penix is 35.8, highest is 9th, lowest is 97th
Bo Nix is 36.5, highest is 7th, lowest is 66th
JJ McCarthy is 45.1, highest is 21st, lowest is 86th.Probably wise to throw out the highest and lowest ranking for each since they appear to be somewhat anomalous.
Makes you wonder how recently those draft rankings were updated. If Daniels makes it to 8 let alone 21 I'll eat cottage cheese.
Dude, I love cottage cheese.
This explains a lot :p

If that's in the 2nd round, where many have him, I think he stays. But there are a handful of respected draft analysts like Matt Miller who think he could be a top 15 pick. If that's where they place him, he probably declares.

Most of the connected draft guys have said scouts are telling them McCarthy is going to go higher than he's being projected by the media right now.

I get that impression. I think the NFL sees him as a projection pick, a piece of clay. How might he have looked in a passing offense? He's three years younger than Bo Nix. What might he look like in three years?

This is it exactly. He's also a very good athlete. He's 6'3"+ and can add 5-8 lbs of muscle on that frame easily. Nice arm. Smart kid. Has swagger. Can throw in tight windows. A piece of clay learning behind Kirk Cousins? Sign me up.
5 star high school QB.
I think the fact that McCarthy is only 20, is a flat out winner, and has the physical skillet to make all the throws will eventually trump his lack of statistics. If he declares (and I think what happens with Harbuagh is going to be big), I really don't see him dropping past our pick at #11. Problem is you have the Giants picking at #6 who is reportedly in on QB, the Falcons at #8 who is obviously in on QB, and I think the Jets picking #10th could also be in on QB.
The top 3 are going to be out of reach for Minnesota, so if we wanted McCarthy, the sweet spot is probably going to be trading up with the Chargers at #5 to get ahead of these teams
Possible bombshell— Wesley Steinberg, a NYG reporter, is saying Caleb Williams won’t play for the Bears and is waiting for a trade before declaring.
Doubt it affects us much in regards to drafting a QB but if true- wow. (Waiting for Sticky to start a separate thread on this in 3, 2…)

I think that's fake. No way a trade could happen before declaration deadline anyway.
That said, it wouldn't surprise me too much if CW eventually does refuse to play for certain teams.

whats funny about this is the bears could trade down, some team could say he's their guy, but then switch to Daniels on draft night and williams could still end up someplace he doesnt want to be.

Sounds like Tarvaris Jackson. Anyway He looks pretty ordinary I would aim a little higher.

Caleb Williams talked about going back to school to avoid the Bears. From what I’ve been told, Caleb Williams “desperately” wants to be a Viking.
I’m guessing the “desperately” claim is probably a bit of an exaggeration, but it sounds like the Vikings are near the top of his list for his ideal outcome.

Agreed, what happens with Harbaugh is going to have a big impact on his decision.
At 20 he is barely out of his teens
Zona could be another trade-up spot for us, if they are so inclined.
IMO, there is little doubt McCarthy will be there at #11 for Minnesota.

Pretty big difference between Alabama State and Michigan.

I've heard the same rumors, but I don't know how much of that is true. The Wesley Steinberg thing was fake, but that doesn't mean there's not a glimmer of truth in there.

He does want to be a Viking.....unfortunately, it doesn't mean he will. His 'team' views the organization, the market and the opportunity as perfect for him to succeed and be mentored properly. I don't think its possible, but if KAM somehow maneuvers to get this kid, it will be a home run. Like an out of the park home run deal.
