Going to be fun watching both tonight.

Nix was also impressive yesterday although it was against Liberty.

Penix. JJ missed too many throws today while Penix kept fitting the ball in tight windows. Just my igorant observation from today’s game. Not sire if being a leftie is bad or puts him at a disadvantage but I will wait to hear from more knowledgeable folks

I've been on the Penix wagon all season,   just have a few concerns, mostly his injury history.   But he's my favorite of the bunch in terms of being a leader and a passer.  The kid just has an IT factor to him.

That’s a GREAT feat and congrats to him… and that catch and theow yesterday? PHEW! . However. mention must also be made about the Michigan defense and a certain RB called Corum. I still beleive if Corum had played last year the outcome would have been different. He is just too much.

At some point I hope to figure him out, but right now Penix is an enigma to me. I agree with all the positives. He's got some IT factor, terrific accuracy and enough athleticism to maneuver in the pocket, but rarely runs. His patience in the pocket at Washington is going to translate well to the NFL.

But that release! Oh my. I can't believe no one's talking about this. At first I thought it was just that he's left handed, because I haven't seen a release like that since Tim Tebow. His footwork is even worse. Throws every ball as if he’s riding a horse. Legs apart, body out of alignment. It's nails on a chalkboard.

That said, the proof is in the pudding, right? If he delivers the ball on time and accurately, and man does he ever, what difference does it make how he releases it? And could he be even better if you improve it?

Well, we'll all get a chance to watch him at least one more time...And against a very good front in Michigan.

It's a good question; will nfl coaching ruin him or improve him?  High floor, no idea what the ceiling is.

ITs only one game, but I was more impressed with Penix than JJ yesterday.

I think he's in the conversation in the 20-60 range. Love his arm, running ability and short accuracy, but I saw another poor decision yesterday (the pick on the sideline) that he seems to make more often than you'd like.

Penix can do it all. Injury history was at Indiana when he was basically their running back. I love his arm and how quickly he gets the ball out. I actually think out of all the top prospects I have watched he could come in right away and start. Delivery is weird but then so was Philip rivers. Would love to see him in purple if our coach can figure out how to adjust his rigid play calling to fit the strengths of a different QB.

Penix did look good in the Texas game and agree Jimmy he does have that IT factor about him.  But two ACL injuries have to be a red flag. I haven't seen many Washington games but I did notice in the Texas game he wasn't under center much so would this also be a concern in the NFL?

Penix is thin and lean and has had 2 ACL surgeries. Not saying you shouldn't draft him, what I'm saying is its just another added risk factor to the whole guesswork of whether a QB will make it in the NFL or not.

yep,  I dont know if his calm is due to not taking hits because his OL is pretty solid, will he still be as calm if he gets banged around a lot,  but then he took more shots in the PAC title game ( IIRC) and he still showed pretty damn well,   I wondered if he could even run anymore until that game,  I think he ran once or twice.

as far as his technique, I think that would be something that should be worked on over  a very long period of time,  he is still young enough to have the arm strength to make any throw he needs so while that will wane with age and could extend his career with better mechanics,  I would be very leery of messing up his accuracy now.

the thing with me,  what am I missing on the kid,  I've watched him more than any other college QB in the last 10 years and absolutely love him.  I just cant shake the feeling that if he came to Minny,  it would be Toretta all over again ( or pick your favorite QB bust )  I am just happy for the kid ( after getting overlooked for the Heisman ) and hoping that he can finish off his career with one more win. ( sorry Sticky and the rest of you Michigan fans,  I like the underdog stories,  and DeBoer is a local kid )

the first throw of the game?  I was wondering about the low sun on that one,  IIRC they were playing into the sun and this time of year it can be a bitch any time of day if you are facing it.  maybe he didnt see the defender on that one as he blended into the sideline?

I was curious how he was used in  Indiana and if that led to his repeated injuries there.  if they were running his skinny ass,  that likely explains quite a bit.

On McCarthy- he seems to have the arm, mobility and leadership but the thing that gives me pause is how Harbaugh has mostly used him as a rich-man's game manager. This is the same coach who had Andrew Luck chucking the ball all over the place in college and got to the Super Bowl with an offense tailored around Kaepernick. It seems curious that this is the offense he's decided to build around his 3rd year starting QB. Can't argue with UM's results but for the Vikings purposes it makes me wonder.

Now this is someone with a critical eye. I have no idea what you are talking about. All I saw from Penix were completions =)
Thanks for the insights
