I'm going to wait for the Finale to give this season a final grade. But reflecting on last night and the season- to-date, they've had to pack too much into too few episodes. The curation of character and story depth has been hurt in the process. I do feel for the writers, no books to be guided by anymore. I hope they don't succumb to blockbuster effects at the expense of quality storytelling. Feels like its tipping over the line.

I totally understand what you're saying. In some ways I feel like my brain is filling in gaps at times. Which is almost a testament to the writers that it happens so seamlessly... But others have noted that they aren't filling in the gaps write as easily and that they find it jarring.

With the series being beyond the books there is nothing to go on where we are right now. So they have to go with the writing staff they have to wrap the story arc up as satisfactory as possible. Martin had how many years to finish and he didn't finish it. That happens. But now it's on the HBO writers to get it done.

Random thoughts-
Thinking Tyrion was looking a tad creepy at the end there... Guessing that was him seeing his hopes for a democracy dashed by Jon Snow/ Sand/ Aegon Targaryen.

I was simultaneously proud of, and disappointed by Cersei's decision to join the alliance, then simultaneously disappointed and proud of Cersei reminding us all that she's the most murderous woman in the Seven Kingdoms!

I kinda feel that Littlefinger begging felt slightly it of character for someone who had manipulated the entire show... But in the end it makes sense, because he knew that every manipulation he has is based on lies, and half-truths, and that shit don't fly when the Starks have Professor Bran Xavier!

Jamie... We knew he wouldn't die, because he's wrapped in layer upon layer of plot armor... But it still doesn't change the awesomeness of his character arc. 

I think Cersei is going to die in childbirth, and that baby will be a dwarf...

Theon went straight Hulkamaniac from those crotch shots! I half expected him to start shaking his head no, and do a finger wag as he hulked up!
