Ngakoue to Vikings

Wow!
What does this say about Hunters 'tweak' though...?

Definitely something to keep an eye on.
Part of me wonders if it isn't just better to cut Reiff now and make that switch. I don't see him on the roster next year at his cap number.
I wonder if the Vikings are considering this now that we made the trade for Yannick... we can roll over the cap savings from Reiff to next year's cap, which will likely be stagnant (or go lower) due to lost revenue from this season.

B) EAGAN, Minn. — The Vikings got back to work Sunday, practicing for nearly two hours in full pads at Twin Cities Orthopedics Performance Center. It was a presumed vet day for a handful of offensive players, as Adam Thielen, Kyle Rudolph and Riley Reiff did not practice. Tackle Rashod Hill and defensive ends Danielle Hunter and Kenny Willekes also did not practice. Neither did linebacker Ben Gedeon, who is currently on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform List. Sunday's practice was the last full session open to the media. There is limited availability going forward. 1. Shuffling the O-line With Reiff and Hill not practicing, the Vikings had a different look at tackle. Brian O'Neill switched to the left side, which allowed Oli Udoh to bump up to the right side with the first team. The interior of Dakota Dozier, Garrett Bradbury and Pat Elflein remained intact from past practices.@"ArizonaViking" said: I would not be surprised considering the Viking's salary cap issues, that someone will be traded in the next few days to off-balance Ngakoue's salary... Word is they want to renegotiate Reiff's contract.Dozier took all of the first-team reps at left guard, and Aviante Collins spent practice as the second-team left tackle. Ezra Cleveland stayed at left guard, and was next to center Brett Jones, right guard Dru Samia and right tackle Blake Brandel with the second unit. Dozier, Elflein, Udoh and Jones were impressive in 1-on-1 drills, as were defensive linemen Ifeadi Odenigbo, D.J. Wonnum and Eddie Yarbrough. https://www.vikings.com/news/offensive-line-2020-training-camp
Interesting on a couple levels. So it looks like Dozier is the starter and Ezra backup. Collins is a swing on the left side and very much on the outside looking in.Oneill is the 3rd String LT? Only 1 reason I can think they do that at this stage, send Reiff a strong message that Udoh is ready to start

Is this what would need to happen either way to keep Cook and sign Ngakoue long-term??
The Vikings are going to have to pay O'Neill LT money next year. If they try to claim he deserves RT money, his agent should say, "Fine, I bet some other team will play a young OT with 3 years experience and great pass blocking grades and outstanding athleticism to be their LT" - and some team definitely would. So why not get him over to LT, especially if Udoh is ready and they need to move Reiff to get cap space?
Bold move to get Ngakoue. Sure, Odenigbo is unhappy, but it was a huge risk to project him becoming a consistent starter. Can he play 3T? I know he was hoping to focus on DE but he seems similar to Tom Johnson, maybe an even better pass rusher.
Has this deal even been completed and blessed by the league?
I know he had to sign his tender, then sign the new deal with the Vikings and League had to approve
I just wonder what they mean by "extended time" when talking of Hunter. Training camp? First week or two? That statement is pretty open ended.

There's a corona virus going on. Didn't you know? Nothing gets done fast anymore.
The one thing that is odd to me is Ngakoue, is far from the typical DE that the vikings try to draft. They either go for a 6-5 proto-typical DE, or more of a 6-2 physical overcheiver. Ngakoue is a speed deamon on the edge, and a nightmare on passing downs. A little light when defending the run. I think the draft next year is truly going to be Russian roulette, especially at the top of the draft. The fact that we were able to get Ngakoue for a 2nd in next years draft is more than fair compensation. I would value that second as likely a late 3rd or early 4th due to the lack of game film that the scouts are going to be able to use.

True, but I think traits are more important when projecting whether a prospect will translate to the NFL - when a player has 4 years in the league, they know he can play. But his size does make me wonder if we're going to play a lot more 3-4.

I wondered the same thing.Ngakoue has played LDE and RDE.
Same goes for Hunter and Odenigbo, and they can both be pass rush specialist as DT.
Now Capers can draw up some rather exotic shit.
The big stuff always happens when I take a day off from this site LOL. Man if we can just get anything from the DT's this D as a whole could be better than last year. We still have Smith/Harris/Barr/Kendricks/Hunter. Ngakoue is better than Griffen, and lets Odenigbo go back to being a super-sub. I'm betting that 2 out of 3 of Hughes/Hill/Dantzler are better than who they're replacing, plus working Gladney in as well.
That leaves it up to (I'm guessing) Jaleel Johnson and Shamar Stephen to not stink out the joint at DT.

Smith/Harris
Barr/Kendricks
Hunter/Ngakoue
Those 3 tandems are Top 5? in the NFL.
there's question marks with the 5 other starters, but it's not like Zim or Patterson have never developed CB's or DLineman before......
Have there been any DTs who have made noise at training camp like Watts or Lynch? 3T has been a major hole that the Vikings ignored since Richardson left. I really want it to be the top priority in 2021.

Maybe? The lynch pin will be the cap for next year... if we cut Reiff, that puts us back around 12 million in space. If we sit on it, we can roll that extra 12 million on to next year's cap. But if the cap goes down 10-15 million, then we're still over the cap and we'll need to get creative with some restructures (Harry) and probably cut guys like Rudy, Shamar, etc. to make it back under the cap.
