Another average day for him. 6/7 for 102 yards 1 TD and led another TD drive to lead us from behind again.

Guy definitely deserves to be 3rd string. No doubt about it.

Sloter sees the open receiver and delivers quickly. He may be a first read QB, I don't know. He can use his feet to get away from pressure and still find the open receiver.
He is so slight of build I doubt he would last a full season.
I think things work out the way they are supposed to. He sure has been fun to watch and I wish him luck.

I don't think he hates the kid, but people on both sides of this QB debate have really dug their heels in... it's gotten to the point of stupidity IMO.

I mean I feel like I'm getting lumped in with "blind Zimmer supporters" when all I've been saying is that if Sloter isn't moving up, there has to be a legitimate reason for it.  And it's not that Zimmer is hard headed or doesn't like him making plays because he's too much of a gunslinger.  He has some talent, that's plain to see.  It has to be from the mental side of the game...

Personally, I like Sloter a lot as a developmental QB and hope he is on our final 53 this season.  I do agree with you that he should have gotten some more reps against the 2's at some point this preseason, but I'm not going to lose any sleep over the fact that he hasn't.

I don't know why we wouldn't keep him...  Browning has done nothing to show that he deserves a longer look.

It sounds to me like some are taking glee in what could be his release. I don't get that. The kid has shown nothing but moxie and IT factor that we all were impressed by until Zimmer says he had a few things to clean up, and then everyone--really not talking about this board, but more on Twitter (PA, Arif, etc)--jumped on that bandwagon as if they'd recognized those weaknesses all along. It makes me laugh.

I also think there is a mischaracterization of viewpoints here. Except for a tweet here and there, I don't know of anyone who was saying that Sloter deserved to be promoted to QB2, only that he earned and deserved a shot with the 2's. Is he a gamer? Or just someone who feasts on 3rd string talent? Some pretend to know that, but of course they don't. I really do believe that Zimmer made a mistake on not trying to find out. There were 5 or 6 QB3s in the preseason who got that opportunity. Because, hey, it's a pretty good idea.

I'm beginning to believe that Zimmer, while a brilliant defensive mind, ain't so hot at roster management and managing expectations, personalities, emotional intelligence. Rhodes comes to mind, but there are others. We draft a kicker in the 5th round. He blows a couple of kicks, Zimmer cuts him and he goes on to be one of the best kickers in the NFL. We trade for a hot, young kicker who can't miss in Baltimore. Comes here and he's Stevie Wonder. And, as if it to rub dirt in our face, the kickers the Vikings faced this preseason were 13 of 13. God, you can't write this stuff.  I fear we're on the verge of another blunder with Sloter.

its the VF way,  you are not allowed to straddle a fence or have anything other than an extreme view,  even if you try to explain your moderate position on a topic (any topic)  the extremes will badger and bully you until you get pissed and make an extreme statement... and then they have you where they wanted in you in the first place.

really this whole damn ordeal isnt about anybody thinking Sloter should be starting,  its just a matter of most all of us agreeing that he should be given more of a work load with better talent around him and against better opposing talent to gauge how NFL ready he really is.   Zimmer slow plays so many young guys its like he has forgotten that he is coaching in the free agency era where players are free to leave if they dont feel like they are getting treated fairly.

And what so many of you fail to understand conversely is that some feel its not this gigantic injustice that Sloter isn't getting #2 reps. It isn't personal, it isn't some conspiracy, it isn't Zimmer being stubborn, it isn't dislike for Sloter, its just that its pretty obvious the staff doesn't feel he deserves them and its better served giving Mannion them.

It other words, its just a little fan drama and much ado about nothing. Which is exactly what it is. Its ok, we all root for the same team.

Don't hate him at all, as a matter of fact he has some huge upside, once he can do all the things a starting QB should do. Our coaches feel he isn't ready....that would be good enough, but somehow some Purple Haze infects some here and see gold and elevate players prematurely. My comment was meant that now preseason is over, Sloter will go back to being a developmental 3rd string QB, and the Sloter crowd will disappear.

as long as we have inferior talent at back up QB,  the Sloter crowd wont go anywhere.  Mannion taking a roster spot because of his ability to coach up KC is absurd when he doesnt play the position better than Sloter.  I would have liked to see Sloter get about 1.5 quarters to start the game last night and then Mannion go in and work with the same group of players and then give Browning and the rest of the developmental and bubble guys the 4th quarter.

Fair point sticky, it isn't like Mannion has been in this offense for 10 years.  He is new to the team, going to be the #2 and needs the reps to get comfortable.

I would have thought maybe Sloter could have gotten some, but I am just giving an uninformed opinion on it.  Haven't seen a lick of him practice, but the coaching staff has.  SO it probably does make more sense to let the kid learn for another year and get your backup the work he needs since he may be needed in an actual game.

No, it's not personal, it's not a conspiracy, it's not Zimmer being stubborn. It's just stupid. But that's just my opinion. I think he should've gotten reps with the 2's in the interest of discovery, analysis, evaluation...prudence, etc....the way Belichick gave 2nd team reps to his QB3 last week. It makes sense; it really does.

Now, I know that sounds like I'm not giving credit to the coaches who see him in practice every day (Kubiak, Stefanski, etc. coaches for whom I have a lot of respect), but the idea of a "gamer"--no doubt a very REAL thing in sports--renders all of that irrelevant.

Doesn't mean I think Sloter should get fitted for his gold jacket (saw that one on twitter). Doesn't mean I think he's a future franchise QB, or even a starter. Doesn't even mean I think he should be promoted to QB2 over Mannion. These are what's called "straw men." (I don't say this for your benefit, but for the benefit of those who don't have access to the political board and see them 16 times a day, a "straw man" is when you exaggerate your opponents' position to such an extreme as to make it sound ludicrous, and your argument against it, sound reasonable...logical.

More than anything, that's what's behind most of this nonsense.

So Jimmy you know more about QB's and who the backup should be than Zimmer and the coaching staff? The backup has to be able to read defenses and cues and help the coaching staff change the gameplan accordingly. Zimmer has stated several times that is something Sloter needs to get better at. Zimmer feels like Monion is better at #2....but I'm sure you know so much more about it than Zimmer, after watching a few quarters of Sloter playing vanilla preseason games with guys who could be unemployed by the end of the day, your clearly more up to speed than the coaching staff who see every practice, classroom, game time, off time and more.

And I disagree that the Sloter lovers won't quiet down. Once this is settled today, the only time Sloter will be brought up again will be if/when Cousins get hurt, and God forbid the whole offense is in trouble if we have to finish the season with either Manion or Sloter. If a big injury happens, I would look for the vikes to make a trade for a QB with more experience.

Sloter lovers will quiet down, until next preseason. Heck, they have already quieted down alot since he threw the pick Thursday night.

Report: Vikings trying to trade QB Kyle Sloter
And they’ll release him if they can’t find a partner

With less than two hours to go before the NFL-mandated roster deadline, the Minnesota Vikings are, reportedly, trying to deal a fan favorite.

Numerous sources on social media are reporting that the Vikings are attempting to trade quarterback Kyle Sloter, and that if they can’t find a partner by the 3:00 PM Central deadline, they will release him.

Sloter has put up very impressive numbers in the past three preseasons, the last two of which have come with the Vikings. However, the Vikings appear committed to keeping Sean Mannion as the primary backup to Kirk Cousins, and they are reportedly hoping to get Jake Browning on to the practice squad after waiving him earlier today.

This also means that the Vikings are, apparently, content to go with two quarterbacks on the 53-man roster, which is a departure from what most Gary Kubiak offenses have done in the past.

We’ll obviously be keeping an eye on this one, as we’re at about an hour and 45 minutes before NFL teams need to have their rosters set. We are tracking all of the moves on our roster tracker right here.

I literally can't believe how much I agree with you. Which is surely one of the 7 Signs of the Apocalypse.

Stay safe in Florida my friend. It's been decades since I dealt with a hurricane  and don't miss that part (or the bugs and mutant ducks) at all.

All that bullshit that you say is a plus for mannion makes me wonder what the fuck they have 10 offensive coaches for.

Nice condescending  tone by the way,  keep that in mind next time you disagree with anything the coaches or a player does.  I'm sure you never have differing views on anything.  And since quite a few fans are in agreement with me,  is it a stretch to question a coach that needs to bring in an assistant HC after 4 years in the league?  Or one that hasn't been able to find a kicker that doesnt go to shit?  Plenty of reasons to not go blindly along with shit just because Zimmer says so.

If Zimmer and staff were so great at evaluating QB talent, we wouldn't have given Cousins 84 million.  Just cause they guys make a decision, it doesn't make it right.  They get it wrong more often than not, which is why we have had little success in the Zimmer era despite a lot of talent on the roster.

Ok Jimmy. You know more than all the coaches many years of experience. Kukiak has been in about 7 super bowls, Zimmer was in at least one....

Sloter is a RAW TALENT. He excelled in a very vanilla defense in preseason against 3rd and 4th stringers, most of whom are being waived today, yet you see Tom Brady. I see Joe Webb, Christian Ponder and more preseason.

I love this team, but we sure have some hard-headed 3rd QB loving people here. There is so much more to being a QB that what Sloter has shown. He can't read a defense (see Ponder), he has poor clock management, and hasn't shown the coaches he has the ability to learn it in practice.....I'm surprised we are cutting him, but since we are the second team to cut him, maybe he isn't the next Tom Brady and he really is the next Joe Webb?

I wouldn't be surprised if he is waived and not claimed by anyone.....

are you looking to win some points by making that statement repeatedly?  I may not know Xs and Os like a professional coach,  but a blind man can see that Zimmer doesnt necessarily make the best personnel decisions in how he has handled certain players... apparently a blind fan cannot.

Sloter is cut for second team in 3 years (if it is true he will be cut)..........yet you see the next coming of Tom Brady, who was never cut.......hmmmmm, I think I'll go with the NFL talent evaluators who see all apsects rather than an arm chair QB who see a few quarters of vanilla preseason games.

I see a raw talent that needs more time, hardly someone I want an injury away from leading my vikings.

@JimmyinSD -
Why bother? We are not allowed to question anything because we either are not coaches nor are we lucky to see the players practice everyday.
- All we asked (at least me) is why we could not give him a chance with the 2nd team.
- it was pretty clear for all that he was very comfortable and out played the fourth stringers.
Oh no we cant ask that cos the coaches are never wrong.
we just wasted a 5th round pick on a kicker. That makes two wasted 5th round picks in back to back years yet we dont have a kicker.

No one ever said Sloter was the saviour but cutting him without really giving him a decent shot even at practice is just pathetic.
The QB, WR (until Diggs and Thielen worked out), OL and now Kicking have been a problem for Speilman and Zimmer.
To be bullish and say they (coaches and Rick) know best is really not a justification when talking about these positions. They have missed more than they have succeeded. So, I for one think it is fair question the decision not to give Sloter a shot.
On another note, we are on OC number four in Zim's 5 year tenure. All hand picked by both Rick and Zim. Please allow me question their decisions especially on offense because I have very little faith in their judgement on this side of the ball.
1. First it was Norv then Norv with Pat S. Looking over his shoulder.
2. Then Pat S.
3. When Pat S. left we spent a whole offseason reviewing our offense. We even "spent alot time on the ranch" (that's a direct quote) trying to figure how the Eagles shut down our offense and identified just the right OC. Defillipo. Only to fire him after what? 13 games?
4. Now we found just the perfect OC we need - Stefanski. But wait! We added Kubiak to help (when asked why so many past head coaches, Zim said you can never have enough good coaches. The funny part is they are all on the offensive side of the ball). But Stefanski should not look over his shoulder. Does that look like a group that knows what they are doing to you?
Anyway, what do I know?
