Kalil throws Vike's OL Coaches Under the Bus

Did Kalil really just give Everson Griffen 4 months to read that over and over and over and...

The thing that separates the good college players from the good NFL players is work ethic.  A high draft pick like Kalil has the requisite talent to be good, but if he can't find it in himself to be self-motivated and WANT to be great, he won't be.  

I'm glad he's gone.  A guy like Reiff isn't as physically talented, but he's an old school Midwestern boy.  He'll push himself to the limits to get the job done even if it isn't pretty...  I think fans will be pleasantly surprised with his performance this season.

I keep thinking about all the one on one time I saw with Kalil. He got the coaching and mentorship. It's not like they didn't try. He wasn't doing the work. And when he kept getting beat by Griffen, he didn't seem to care. I remember reading an article where he said he wasn't all that excited to be playing football. He has to take some responsibility and ownership for his performance. It seems like he is still making excuses. 

Shit! If we only demanded excellence.

I will go back to what the coaches thought.  he was good enough to leave on an island versus the top pass rushers.  His failures were memorable and stand out, but I would say he was solid with occasional glaring lapses.  I did a breakdown in 2015 I think.  He had around 1 to 2 noticeable failures a game. (there were likely more less-obvious depending on scheme and such)  Too many for a lock down LT, but far from the "worse than Charlie Johnson" line.

I'm not convinced we have much for OLine coaching.  We have had far too many problems to peg it completely on shitty talent and injuries, but Kalil's lack of drive and desire are very easy to see.  I think Reiff will be a noticeable upgrade, but we should still be working on improving our OLine coaching.

He wasn't on an island,  they often had a TE or RB chip on his side,  they don't call it help if they are just chip blocking,  but it's still help.  He was a pussy in  every sense of the worD and proven to be a bitch to boot.

Exactly. I said the same in a facebook group that claimed that he just wasn't coached enough. Gimme a break. THis guy got all the attention he deserved and more and if you don't think those coaches were demanding excellence out of him.... well I don't know what to tell ya. The guy went to the injury card every single time, and maybe he was injured. But the fact is that he just wasn't that good. He didn't pan out for us. Now maybe Carolina has some magic oline coaches and things are going to be different.... But I wouldn't bet on it.

We have also had an unreal amount of injuries at less than ideal points of the season. Sure all teams have injuries. But how many different oline combinations did we trot out there in 2015. I know it was a stat that they would show often.

Not really, as I said, I went through game video and focused on him quite a bit.  TJ was getting the help, the chips and such.  Kalil was left to sink or swim no his own. 

He may be a bitch, and he may be lazy, but the coaches left him to man his post.  As I said, I wish he had an ounce of desire for "excellence", he may have been a long term answer.  But it just isn't true that he was worse than Charlie Johnson who was helped all game long and still sucked.  Kalil sucked, but he did it without much help.

At times he looked as though he wasn't even trying. Like Bryant McKinnie lazy. I don't even know if lazy is the word for it. It just looked like he didn't care.

Came across pretty immature, honestly. With all of the PR training these guys have, you have to imagine he could have heaped just as much praise on his current coaches, and NOT have thrown all of his Vikes & USC coaches under the bus in the same comment. Hard to think this was anything but a jab at our coaching staff.

That wanker was paid millions to be a Matador, and nearly get our QBs killed, and he got chance after chance. You'd you'd be thankful and at least a little gracious to the team that gave you a chance and made you a multi-millionaire in the process.

Not to personalize this too much, but my current company and I don't quite see eye to eye, and behind the scenes I've been pretty frustrated. That doesn't mean I'm going to bad mouth them if I find another position elsewhere... I'll be gracious and thankful that they've employed me for X years, and allowed me to provide more than I ever thought for my family. We'll shake hands and I'll move on.

Kalil needs to grow up.
