Get it done I say. Easy to say though, it's not my money lol.
I say get it done before camp and lets get this thing going. Rhodes is a must sign.
$14 million a year is actually way less than I thought he would want or get

And he has earned it. Hopefully he can play at a high level for us another 5-7 years.

I was honestly expecting around $18 million a year.

Hes among the top CBs, but he isnt a rewrite the salary brackets, top paid in the league type of DB. Not trying to dis X, he plays the spot great, but he typically doesn't have to cover very long with our front 7 and the defense that Zim dials up. QBs aren't sitting on many routes to come open before they go looking elsewhere.
Thanks for the update, Guru! Very exciting news for sure. Getting Xavier signed is a must.

I think that might be the kind of money he would expect if he hit unrestricted free agency next March, but the cost should be lower under these circumstances, right? He'l get a raise over his 2017 salary (more money sooner) and get some guarantees ahead of this season (when he could get hurt).@"JimmyinSD" said: Hes among the top CBs, but he isnt a rewrite the salary brackets, top paid in the league type of DB. Brandon Browner got overpaid 2 years ago despite everyone knowing he was more product of the team he played on. I think a player would actually get angered if a team implied they were a "product of the system/team".We need to sign Rhodes.

perhaps, he might get more. but as good as X is, he has shown some warts at times and who knows what the market might do if he were a FA. I am not saying that is a negotiating ploy, just saying that the market isnt likely going to be so high for a guy that is a product of a great system, even if he is a top level player, teams arent likely to jump the salary range over 20% for that guy... or maybe they would.
We have to start keeping our players that are solid. We can't keep letting them test the waters thinking they will come back home.
Isn't that the whole reason many wanted to cut peterson before?

nobody is saying that we should let him test the market. its just a matter of Bob saying he thought he would demand more than the other top tier CBs are brining and I said that I didnt think that he is the type of player that would reset the bar in terms of top salaries at the position. hell yes we need to keep X, but we shouldnt grossly overpay for him either IMO. ( thats what got us stuck with an aging RB that wasnt performing nearly what his contract was calling for.)
