Vikings first practice in pads ended. Team ended with a 2-minute drill. J.J. McCarthy was with the 1s, threw an interception in that period. Kyler Murray was with the 2s, didn’t complete a pass in that period. Defense dominated overall.

#Vikings training camp notes for day 2 of open practice: • First day in pads. Kyler Murray had another good day. Had one throw to Justin Jefferson where he headed pressure from Ivan and tossed it on the run right in the bread basket for 18. He started off 6/6 in team drills and was really smart with his decision making. However, in the 2 minute drill he didn’t have a single completion, as the defense looked dominant. • JJ McCarthy didn’t have as good of a day as Kyler. He had a nice throw to Jefferson along the right sideline during team drills that I’m sure will be posted. But he had a few possessions where he held onto the ball for too long, resulting in a sack or missed throw, and also threw in interception during the 2 minute drill. • Demond Claiborne was back in uniform, but was on the rehab field during early portion of practice. • James Pierre was seen doing walkthroughs after missing the last few practices with a lower body injury. He also took part in individuals. • Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins was getting mixed in with the 1’s on the edge. • Jay Ward and Chuck Demmings were also getting some reps with the 1’s in the secondary. Demmings even matched up against Jefferson some reps. • Tai Felton had the best catch of camp so far. One hand snag in the top left corner of the end zone, and got both feet down too. • Brian Flores was sending his typical unique blitzes and his defense got to the quarterback a few times. To end the day, his defense allowed zero completions to both Kyler Murray and JJ McCarthy.

Hell, we see it all the time this early on in TC. Flo comes out the gates swinging for the fences.
Good to see Turner being aggressive AND still making the play on the RB today. Sounds like the OL was definitely tilting protections and blocking his way today.

Not a huge TF fan, but I read it anyways...I think he brings up the major points that MAY decide this QB comp sooner than later:
K1 the faster processor, layers throws pretty effortlessly, excels over the middle of the field (a Koc favorite) and can more accurately place the ball on a receiver.
Now, I also believe JJ can improve on all of those things over time and K1 has to stop slinging hospital balls.
Things really change-up on the field when the pads go on don't it?

Claiborne and Pierre's injuries sound minor. TID and Chuck D are getting 1st ream reps and Tai Felton making plays. No injuries reported (so far) and both QBs were solid until the 2-minute. I'll take it.

Yeah that is the second one of those.
As much as my heart wanted JJ to win the job, my head is telling me that the processing is the deciding factor in Kyler's favor. Well, that and the fact that KOC's been pissed at JJ since the birth of his son. We were missing Harry, Cashman, AVG, Darrisaw and Addison for the Atlanta game and KOC acted like JJ missing one practice decided the game.
At least now Kyler is looking like he deserves to win the job that had already been handed to him behind the scenes.
