I can't tell you how much I love this pick. MB, do you remember you and I discussing him? You asked if he could catch and he can. He's this amazing hybrid of TE/FB and even RB. And he'll kick your ass in the blocking department at just under 250 lbs. This is JJ's boy. KOC is going to use this dude in exciting ways as far as the unexpected. He's super versatile. Smart. The boys in Eagan dialed in the right dude, you'll see. Amazing pick at this stage, bookmark this post. There are plans for this guy situationally.

I'm not a deep Draft guy.....but this guy is going to be a Viking for a long time. The dude you love that does something so cool like 8 to 10 times a year that makes a difference in games. Super solid. This is a big time value pick. Kyler's new BFF because he won't let shit in.

I'd prefer Riley Nowakowski who does the same thing and could be had in the 7th or UDFA. Ugh.

He's not the same. You'll see. Just agree to disagree.

He's obviously a plan for life after Hock...who has a ton to prove to everyone this season.

KOC, JJM, Flores...make a good plan, or you'll be following Kwesi....

Yup. I totally forgot we still needed a fullback. I like that he's more of an H-back TE/FB hybrid...like Kleinsasser maybe? Helluva blocker. I think my concern with him at the time was that he never had a rushing attempt. Not one in 5 years at Michigan. So probably not a 1:1 CJ Ham replacement, who would carry the ball a dozen times a season. I'm sure JJ's digging this pick.

Sticky would know better, but seems like he is more of a FB/H-back than a TE who take Hock's role

That’s actually one of the player comps I saw, along with James Develin, Kyle Juszczyk, & Patrick Ricard! He’s described as a high-motor, "glass-eating" fullback/H-back.

Twice named Michigan’s toughest player and also was awarded the 2025 LowMan Trophy for the nation’s best fullback. Team captain in 2024 and 2025.

252 lbs, about the same as CJ Ham. 25 lbs lighter and 1 inch shorter than Kleinsasser

Welp, Riley went to the Steelers shortly after our pick. We will see who is the better player, but my money is on Riley. He didn't drop a pass as a TE, he is one hell of a blocker, and he can run the ball. He's also a great locker room guy. Oh well, time to support Bredeson

What role is that? Running as fast as my fat ass can down the field and dropping the ball? Hock died after the knee. Whomever we got back isn’t the same.

They both sound like good players.

Comparison:

  • As a Blocker: Max Bredeson is considered the superior, "thumping" lead blocker.

  • As an Athlete/Receiver: Riley Nowakowski is the more versatile, productive offensive weapon.

  • Draft Stock: Both were rated in the 5th-7th round range, with some scouts preferring Bredeson's raw blocking power and others preferring Nowakowski's H-back versatility.

Lmao, that reminds me of my favorite The Jeffersons” episode. George is interviewing to hire a bodyguard and this giant dumb looking dude and asks him what his hobbies are, dude says “duhhhh, I eat glass”. George screams “you’re hired!!!”

Not saying Max is a superstar, I'm saying he's a meat and potatoes dude that has some athleticism and is an ornery bitch. He's nasty. He'll be a CJ Ham+ with 'tude.

Yes, I was thinking Kleinsasser as well. Good comparison...hybrid TE/FB

Also remember, we drafted a TE last year who didn’t play a snap due to injury, + there was a udfa that had some snaps late in the year iirc

He's smaller than Sauce but quicker. Major aggro attitude, ready to truck people. Can catch. He's like a Swiss Army knife that KOC can use very unpredictably in a few plays a game. Fan favorite guaranteed.

Not a fan of the pick but not based on anything other than there were players on the board that probably would provide more value in game situations. Not one running play ever in 5 years?!!?. That's not very CJ Hammish.

C.J.Ham

Over a nine-season NFL career (2017–2025) exclusively with the Minnesota Vikings, fullback C.J. Ham totaled 42 carries for 119 rushing yards and 6 rushing touchdowns. I think we can probably squeeze 4.67 carries per season out of the new guy! 😇

I'm not sure we can trust him carrying the ball. But that's OK. Kleinsasser had a few carries early on, but over his last 8 seasons, he had zero. If we can get a Kleinsasser-like career out of Bredeson, we should be pretty happy about that. Bredeson might be a better blocker than even Ham. But since he can also line up at TE it should help disguise our intentions more.
