Dexter Lawrence requests trade

The Viking destroyer wants out of New York and the Vikings have a huge need along the defensive line. Would you give up #18 to get it done?
Sexy Dexy is my man crush at DT. I'd float Greenard out there before the 18th pick. The Giants have the 5th pick and I doubt they trade that pick, but maybe their top second round pick?
My question is, why would Dexter want out of NYC, especially when Harbaugh just joined?

He's a little older (28) but I'd give up #18 in this draft for probably at least four years of Fat Pat type elite defensive line play.
Also don't forget, one of our biggest rivals in Chicago just traded for Bradbury to be their starting center and we know he can't handle Lawrence. I'd like our chances a lot better against the Bears with Lawrence hovering over Bradbury
I don't think you could really trade him for Greenard as they already have too many edges, but if you could trade Greenard for something and something for him, that'd probably be a net positive. Then go get Caleb Banks or Sadiq at 18. That'd be a very solid set of offseason moves.
Do not see how we could afford him, especially since he is going to want a new contract. Instead of investing the picks and money that would be necessary would prefer to see us use one of our top 2 picks for a DT and sign someone like Wilkins.

He wants a new deal and has 2 years left on his current deal.
A mock Vikings-Giants trade that sends Dexter Lawrence to Minnesota
Story by Will Ragatz • 20h •

All-Pro defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence has requested a trade from the New York Giants and will not be participating in the start of the team's offseason program this week, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. He's seeking a raise that reflects his value, but the two sides apparently have not made any progress.
There should be plenty of interest across the NFL in a player of Lawrence's caliber. The Vikings are probably something of a long shot, given their cap situation and the fact that they already have a star defensive player (Jonathan Greenard) who is seeking a raise. Still, it can't be ruled out. The Vikings have a need at defensive tackle, and there are ways in which Rob Brzezinski could make it work.
Mock trade
Vikings get: DT Dexter Lawrence
Giants get: 2026 second-round pick (No. 49), 2027 fifth-round pick
Why it makes sense
Lawrence, who the Giants drafted 17th overall in 2019, put together a dominant run as an interior pass-rusher from 2022-24. He made three straight Pro Bowls and recorded 27 sacks in that span. Lawrence also had a PFF grade of 89.9 or better in each year, with 60-plus QB pressures in '22 and '23. He was one of the best players in the league at his position.
The 49ers could trade for NY Giants DT Dexter Lawrence
The Giants nose tackle Dexter Lawrence has requested a trade
Last season was oddly quiet for Lawrence from a sack perspective, but his pressure numbers and pass-rush grade remained very good. And unlike previous big-name Vikings DTs Jonathan Allen and Javon Hargrave, Lawrence is still on the back end of his prime. He doesn't turn 29 until November.
Can you imagine adding the man nicknamed Sexy Dexy — all 6'4", 340 pounds of him — to the middle of Brian Flores' defensive line? Alongside Jalen Redmond and the Vikings' edge rushers, Lawrence would have a chance to put together a major bounce-back season in 2026. He could be the piece the Vikings need to reach legitimate Super Bowl contention.
Lawrence is far better than any defensive tackle the Vikings could draft this year. He's also far more expensive, especially since he wants a raise on his current deal (which has two years left at about $20 million per year). But Brzezinski can figure out the salary cap element. This is the type of home run move the Vikings can make when they have Kyler Murray on a veteran's minimum salary. Parting with the 18th overall pick is too steep, but a second and a fifth — which is what Leonard Williams was traded for a few years ago — feels like a fair price.
For the Giants, trading Lawrence wouldn't be an ideal way to break in the John Harbaugh era. But if he wants out, it could make sense to move him while his value is still pretty high. Getting a top-50 pick from the Vikings in this year's draft would allow New York to target someone like Lee Hunter or Christen Miller as a replacement.
Why it's unlikely
There are all kinds of factors that make this a major long shot for Minnesota. The first question worth asking is what the Vikings' level of interest in Lawrence might be. It must be mentioned that he has just half of a sack and five total tackles for loss in his last 22 games. It's possible he's past his prime and could continue to decline as he gets closer to his 30th birthday. That complicates the kind of draft pick return he'll fetch if the Giants do decide to seriously entertain trade offers.
The biggest barrier for the Vikings is the financial side. They'd have to do some serious cap maneuvering to add Lawrence's contract and give him a raise to top-of-the-market DT money. The only way it really works is if they end up trading Greenard in a separate deal, which would free up some cap space and also presumably get them a new second-round pick. Lawrence may be a better fit within the Vikings' current roster construction, but the easier move would be to simply pay Greenard instead of executing two different major trades.
Lawrence to the Vikings is a fun idea. But given the price they'd have to pay, both in terms of draft capital and his contract, it's hard to see it turning into reality.

Uh...where can I sign?! There is no way a 2nd and a 5th would get Sexy Dexy to MN, but if that was all it took, I'd have signed up yesterday, if I were part of the Vikings brass.
What comes comes to mind is my all time favorite fantasy football commercial: "TJ Hoshmalazode...yes, lock it up!" ..."TJ Who's Your Mamma..." "...put 'em on the board, Houshmazilly, got it...Championship!"

LOL! You are correct. The Giants want a haul for him, reported starting asking price:
- A late 2026 first-round pick
- A 2027 first-round pick
- A second & fifth round pickNO WAY. On top of that he is asking for $35 million a year average. LOL!

Unless he can also play QB, the Giants are not getting anywhere near that. But y'know what? If I wanted to trade my girlfriend Sydney Sweeney, I'd start really high too.

That's called a starting offer. What they actually expect is to get maybe 1 1st and change, or else for the asking price to be so high as to scare off all suitors so they can turn around and tell Lawrence there's no takers.

I agree but getting a 1st and change is still a far higher price than a 2nd and a 5th. I agree with that completely.

In this same interview, Schefter says he believes a 2nd and a 5th-round pick gets a deal done. He also doesn't think a teams would offer a 1st-round pick. https://t.co/fu8X9bqbhC

Doable.
If all the sudden both rumored contract restructures get done, Addison and O’Neil, we could see Lawrence here.
Make it happen, Brez.

Trade down to 31, trade that pick to the Giants for Dexter Lawrence and a 4th. In the 2nd round, draft LB Jacob Rodriguez, C Jake Slaughter and WR Ted Hurst in the 3rd. Draft Demond Claiborne in the 4th, Dalton Johnson in the 5th, TE, OL and CB depth in the 6th and 7th, clear space for Lombardi.
no thx to PArsons/Lawrence twice a year....
Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!

What kind of leap does Redmond make with Lawrence next to him? Running on this team becomes a really bad option. J-Rod covers the annual Cashman injury. Maybe he gets Wally Pipped.
Find a number for Dexy that splits the difference between what the Giants are offering and what Lawrence wants.
This move moves the needle big time. Tilts the division.

The New York Giants and star defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence II have reached an impasse on talks over a new contract extension, sources told NFL Network on Tuesday night.
The Giants have engaged with teams on a potential trade of Lawrence, which now will continue ahead of next week's NFL draft.
News of the impasse between the sides comes on the same day Giants general manager Joe Schoen labeled conversations between the team and Lawrence's agent as "productive."
"We've had good conversations with his representatives throughout the last five or six days," Schoen said, preempting his annual predraft news conference with an update on the situation. "Coach , [senior vice president of football operations and strategy] Dawn , myself, we've all been in communication, trying to find some resolution.
"I'll echo what Coach said last week: We'd like for Dexter to be here, and at some point we'll come to a resolution here, whatever that may be. We'll see. But conversations have been really good, they've been productive and we'll see what happens here down the road."
Lawrence's contract is currently out of guaranteed money, and his $20 million salary places him 10th among interior defensive linemen this season. He requested a trade and has not been present for the start of the Giants' first offseason workout program under Harbaugh.
"I'm always going to pick up the phone," Schoen said Tuesday of potential offers for Lawrence. "So if a team calls -- maybe not to the effect that Coach said last week that everybody is tradable -- but, no, that is my job as the general manager. If teams call, you take into account it's a case-by-case basis and what the compensation may be. That's my job to take into consideration what that looks like, what the compensation looks like, who the player is, how that affects the roster and then try to make the best decision off of that."
Making a move would be difficult for the Giants given the state of their roster. They are currently thin at the defensive tackle position and have only two top-100 picks in this year's draft.
Schoen said the trade request hasn't affected the way the team is approaching the draft. The Giants have the fifth selection in the first round and aren't expected to take a defensive tackle in that spot. The 37th pick is their only other selection in the first two days.
"We're going to continue to go through our process," Schoen said. "Scouts left , so they've been here for roughly 14 days and, you know, now we're putting the final touches on the board.
"But it really hasn't affected how we're approaching the draft."
