The Viking destroyer wants out of New York and the Vikings have a huge need along the defensive line. Would you give up #18 to get it done?

no thx to PArsons/Lawrence twice a year....

The New York Giants and star defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence II have reached an impasse on talks over a new contract extension, sources told NFL Network on Tuesday night.

The Giants have engaged with teams on a potential trade of Lawrence, which now will continue ahead of next week's NFL draft.

News of the impasse between the sides comes on the same day Giants general manager Joe Schoen labeled conversations between the team and Lawrence's agent as "productive."

"We've had good conversations with his representatives throughout the last five or six days," Schoen said, preempting his annual predraft news conference with an update on the situation. "Coach , [senior vice president of football operations and strategy] Dawn , myself, we've all been in communication, trying to find some resolution.

"I'll echo what Coach said last week: We'd like for Dexter to be here, and at some point we'll come to a resolution here, whatever that may be. We'll see. But conversations have been really good, they've been productive and we'll see what happens here down the road."

Lawrence's contract is currently out of guaranteed money, and his $20 million salary places him 10th among interior defensive linemen this season. He requested a trade and has not been present for the start of the Giants' first offseason workout program under Harbaugh.

"I'm always going to pick up the phone," Schoen said Tuesday of potential offers for Lawrence. "So if a team calls -- maybe not to the effect that Coach said last week that everybody is tradable -- but, no, that is my job as the general manager. If teams call, you take into account it's a case-by-case basis and what the compensation may be. That's my job to take into consideration what that looks like, what the compensation looks like, who the player is, how that affects the roster and then try to make the best decision off of that."

Making a move would be difficult for the Giants given the state of their roster. They are currently thin at the defensive tackle position and have only two top-100 picks in this year's draft.

Schoen said the trade request hasn't affected the way the team is approaching the draft. The Giants have the fifth selection in the first round and aren't expected to take a defensive tackle in that spot. The 37th pick is their only other selection in the first two days.

"We're going to continue to go through our process," Schoen said. "Scouts left , so they've been here for roughly 14 days and, you know, now we're putting the final touches on the board.

"But it really hasn't affected how we're approaching the draft."

"The Giants and Dexter Lawrence are not at an impasse. The situation is more dire than that: The contract negotiations between the team and Lawrence’s camp have 'broken off,' sources tell the Daily News."

And of course the teams that are most frequently mentioned as trade partners are the Packers and Bears. Vikings should get involved just to prevent that.

Where TF is GB getting cap $ like that when they have Love and Parsons on the roster already? I suppose there are lots of ways to move $$ around and have it count or not.

I hope he stays with the Gmen then anyone in the North but us obviously.

Was wondering the same thing. They can't do huge trades like this in back to back seasons, right?

The Bears I could see and it'd make a lot of sense. Bears gave up a lottttta rushing yards last year. Also, idk what Lawrence is like off the field but especially if he is a "locker room leader" type, Chicago would be smart to go hard after him.

I agree it makes more sense for Chicago. For the Packers, I think it depends on where they see their team in terms of its window. They're one of the younger teams in the NFL so it's hard to see them in "win now, screw the future" mode. But I think the cap is elastic enough to make just about anything work if you want it bad enough.

.5 sacks last season, was he injured…?  Note: 2nd most double teamed rate in NFL.

Update:

Initial Injury (2024): Suffered a dislocated left elbow in Week 13 of the 2024 season (Thanksgiving game), missing the final five games.
2025 Season Impact: Giants GM Joe Schoen confirmed the injury hampered him throughout 2025, contrary to the player's attempts to play through it.
Reduced Performance: After a breakout 2024 season, his 2025 production dropped to a career-low 0.5 sacks.
Recovery: As of late February 2025, reports indicated he was recovering well and participated in the Pro Bowl events.

The Packers already don't have their '26 and '27 1sts from the Parsons trade. What would they give the NYG? The Bears however could definitely do it. They have their 1sts and Caleb is still on his rookie deal.
