I have to say the trailer for Barbie actually looked pretty good! But I will be in the IMAX watching Oppenheimer on opening night. I haven't looked forward to a movie this much in decades. 

Mixed reviewsRolling Stone called Sound of Freedom a "QAnon-tinged thriller" - a reference to the sprawling conspiracy theory that says that Donald Trump is fighting an elite cabal of satanic paedophiles. 
That sort of biting coverage - the headline called it "a superhero movie for dads with brainworms" - was broadly reflective of reviews in left-leaning outlets, while right-wing publications took an altogether different line. 
"It's not 'paranoid' or 'QAnon adjacent' to bring much-needed attention to horrors that are all too real," wrote the conservative National Review. 
The idea that elite cabals of child sex traffickers lurk everywhere is a core QAnon idea. But the company behind the film denies it's fuelling conspiratorial thinking. 
"Anyone who has seen this movie knows it has nothing to do with conspiracy theories," said Angel Studios president Jordan Harmon. "It's about a man who did something brave."
Star calls QAnon 'a good thing'But those QAnon references are not entirely spurious. The film's star Caviezel has talked repeatedly about some of its more bizarre themes.
Caviezel attended a QAnon-themed conference in 2021 and has appeared a number of times on Steve Bannon's podcast, recently calling QAnon "a good thing". 
Using the language of the movement, he warned that "a big storm is coming" and also referred to the "mystical qualities" of adrenochrome, a chemical that QAnon fans falsely believe is being harvested from the brains of child victims. 
"On the one hand, Angel Studios is seeking to present this film as a mainstream movie, as an important story," said John Knefel, a senior writer at the left-wing media watchdog group Media Matters for America. "The other key prong of this marketing blitz is Jim Caviezel absolutely embracing QAnon messaging and theories."
"I do think that this could very well serve as a template for mainstreaming far-right ideas under the guise of an easy popcorn blockbuster," he said.
Operation Underground Railroad and Timothy Ballard have come under criticism for different issues in the past. Investigations by Vice News and others have accused the group of exaggerating their success in breaking up child sexual abuse rings. 
And the energy around conspiracy theories has the potential to distract from legitimate efforts to tackle a very real problem.
"Anti-trafficking groups have already said that QAnon hinders their efforts, and the film revolves around the baseless panic that vast trafficking rings are waiting to snatch up American kids," says Mike Rothschild, an expert on QAnon and author of The Storm is Upon Us. "Trafficking is real but films like this obscure the real issue."
"The film is marketed to Q believers in much the same way as Q works, through fear of trafficking and appeals to emotion," he says.
But Mr Ballard hit back at critics, telling Fox News that those citing conspiracy theories "make zero connection to the actual story".

Thanks for posting the trailer!  According to Rotten Tomatoes, there is strong positive support from the audience reviewers (100%, more than 10k voting) and "movie experts" (72%,36 votes cast).  I generally find audience vote to be a better predictor of a movie than the experts.  I'll probably go see it soon with the Missus.

I am the same way,  if the "experts" hate it,  and the fans love it,  I am likely going to enjoy it.  the "experts" are likely more driven by sponsorship or other corruption to give a review one way or the other.  See the remarks above that are negative towards this movie, or at least trying to instill unfavorable bias... why would any organization or individual write anything that is negative about a story that is about ending child slavery and putting pedophiles behind bars?  at what point do you think... ENOUGH,  somebody needs to speak out against this bias towards disgusting evil people.  Even if you see some people you dont agree with for whatever reason supporting it,  what would make anybody stand up and cast shade about making these issues more known and creating more awareness for putting an end to them?  Experts say that there are up to as many as 3 times more people in slavery today,  than at anytime in the past in the world,  why would anybody try and downplay that,  especially with all the talks of retributions for past travesties,  why turn a blind eye now to those trying to create awareness... seems pretty ungenuine in principal,  even if those shining the light arent somebody we would normally align with IMO.

Oppenheimer should be a good story,  but 3 hours,  thats gonna be a tough sit.  Might have to wait and watch that at home.

The machine as taken over and will discredit, slander, arrest or kill things it deems a threat to it's power. Some of us see it and recognize it, some of us don't care, and some have not been awaken and playing a role for the machine. Most all information is disseminated through only a handful of corporations. This includes the most popular "conservative" network. It's no longer hidden, it's in plain site. Myself or others could list 50 examples but we are all in our own camps and tribes. That was also by design. Ok have your fun.. I know it's coming. 3-2-1 go

what is new and interesting to me is that we all seem to agree that misinformation is dangerous, but our trust is polarized.  i posted a link above of house testimony with an expert on Q and disinformation that cited quite a few sources.   it would be interesting to read similar experts on MSM biases. I suppose there are viking sites out there that may have it posted already IIRC.

Good read. Thanks for posting that. There is probably nothing that fascinates me more than conspiracy theories and those who believe them. It is equally puzzling and infuriating.

Should be a good one. Joaquin Phoenix is a fantastic actor. Right up there with Daniel Day Lewis and Viola Davis IMHO.

In the Sound of Freedom, the footage of the actual rescue was very powerful for me. I imagine most of those kids rescued would not be around today if it wasn't for Tim Ballard. We are living in a very sick world these days

It is kind of amazing how this movie was completed five years ago, and had to overcome so many obstacles just to be released now, in select theaters. It's definitely a movie worth checking out.

I listened to a piece on this movie this morning on NPR.  It was pretty objective.  They did some research and while the producers acknowledged that they took liberties with the actual story (I guess you could say it was "Disney-fied"?  It was enhanced to make it more interesting), the basic story of child trafficking as a problem was acknowledged.  They had more questions about Caviezel doing a movie media tour promoting the film and coming across as a spokesman for QAnon. The producers disavowed any messaging about QAnon.  Yes, I heard clips of his claims...he's waaaaay out there.

Its a weird take to be qanon this qanon that, and then never mention epstein or maxwell. 

A conspiracy theory is a theory without much evidence and it leads people to fill in the gaps with their imagination.  The FBI sucked up a ton of evidence regarding epstein and the jons who were going to his island, and they hid it away from the public preventing us from knowing the information that is out there.

The government by hiding everything from the people creates conspiracy theorists.  If you are against conspiracy theories, you should be for transparency.

If these journalists wanted to, they could put a ton of pressure on politicians to be transparent, but instead they focus on labeling people as kookie, but we're all conspiracy theorists now, and not by choice, and that label only works on the dumb.
