Kyle Sloter...What You Need To Know

Cart way before the horse scenario possibility: Bradford will be 30 in November.....has a good year this season.....the organization gets a good look at Sloter at practice all season long, gets to know him......really likes him and his potential. Does it make it an easier call to commit to Bradford in the short term and let Sloter 'season' for a year or two behind him? And in that process, you trade Teddy next off-season? Like an Aaron Rodgers scenario behind Favre? Because Sloter needs time to develop, for sure.
Crazy early for this kind of forecast, I get that. But I'm just sayin'......its a possible scenario. Because its either Teddy or Sam next season, one is leaving in 2018. And it would take a physically talented dude with a big arm like Sloter to mitigate a Bridgewater trade with the fanbase, IMO....a QB with big upside in the pipeline. I mean, look how silly we are basically being in this thread over the guy, lmao. My point is its normal for fans to get all hot and bothered over the physical attributes.
Reminds me of Jay Schroeder a bit - loads of physical talent, barely played in college, had been in the minor leagues (baseball). He was worth the gamble. That said, there are tons of gambles that never pay off.
You do have to wonder what made Sloter that much less respected than Mitch Trubisky, who didn't play that much more. Sometimes I think whether a prospect was considered a great recruit out of high school sticks with them and pads the impression NFL scouts have.
Slow-ter
Slow-ter
Slow-ter
... I thought it was SLOT-er
Check out 2:17 in that Broncos package. Rolls left, slows down, contorts his upper body to square up a throw and he tosses a friggin' DIME 40 yards down the field (30ish yard completion 8 yards behind the line of scrimmage).
Incredible prospect; it'll be a lot of fun watching him develop in Purple for a while.
Get Sloter on this blueprint:

That's one of the things that reminds me so much of Kaepernick. That ability to roll left and throw with accuracy and mustard with his right hand.
It reminded me of Christian Ponder. That ability to not do that. :P
There are a lot of QBs that get in that position and are just screwed by the laws of physics. I replayed Sloter's motion there a couple times in awe - it almost looks painful. Next, the ball looks like it's shot out of a cannon. I had to recount the yardage a couple times because the WR/target underneath seems like a natural place for that type of throw to go. Nah... 15 more yards later... there's another WR between two defenders. And it looked easy!
I'm impressed with his throwing. Can he put together a playbook and a little QB ability (not stare down his WRs, pocket presence, etc...) in a few weeks/one or two seasons? The guy definitely has the athletic ability.
Being in Broncos country, I can tell you the quote from a Broncos fan is accurate. They're pissed.
I think it's high time we took a gamble like this and found a winning lottery ticket.
That pass between the two defenders... I'm not sure I'd call that an NFL throw... Because there are several NFL QBs that wouldn't attempt that pass.

Yeah, I finally got a chance to get back to Denver radio yesterday and the mood was a cauldron. It's funny how big a story this is in Denver...

Some fan comments:
I've just become a staunch Minnesota Vikings/Kyle Sloter supporter due to what will become known as the biggest mindless, egotistical blunder in NFL history. Sloter showed more hopeful and exciting promise and talent in just 1 training camp and 4 preseason games than both of the 6'-7" stiffs Johnny boy spent premium draft choices on have shown in 4 years put together. With the outstanding young roster the Vikings have assembled they just well may have aquired the crowning piece to what may resemble the New England Patriots of the next decade. Maybe Elway can use his bum twin towers to start a beach volleyball team. But they'll stink that up to hell too.

We should just put him on the active roster to protect him. If Teddy is activated from the PUP, just cut Keenum. Teddy can be the top backup with Sloter the #3 this season.

I tend to agree with this. Any team that loses a starter this weekend will be looking hard at a promising young guy to bring into the fold.
@"MaroonBells" said: As much as I liked Heinicke, and I still think he's got a future in the league, Kyle Sloter is a developmental prototype. His arm and measurables are top notch. He's Colin Kaepernick (hopefully without the distractions): Similar size, speed, arm, intelligence. This is a guy you can hammer on for a few years and really end up with something special. Make no mistake, it's still a long shot. ALL QBs, even 1st rounders, are long shots. But at least with this one you know that everything else is there, and the training and development you spend on him could pay off huge down the road. But when you think about it, why are teams so cheap when it comes to this? Denver, Philly, Atlanta weren't willing to pony up the extra couple hundred grand for a flyer on a prototype QB? In a league where teams almost yearly leave millions of dollars of dead money on their books? Kudos to Rick for doing what it took.
I think Heini disappointed the Vikings that he was not further along in development and that does raise the question if he has topped out. With Sloter, he is no more developed than Heini, but his ceiling seems much higher.

I'm not sure exactly how the PS works, but if a team wanted to sign him to their active roster, don't we have the option to match what they are offering first to put him on our active roster?

Anyone that loses a starter won't be looking at Sloter. That is why Denver released him, they needed to get someone who could be counted on this year.

Yep. Sloter is developmental at this time. No team losing a starter will be interested. The Vikings paid him enough to keep him happy in 2017 on the PS, he's practicing every day as the de facto #3, expect them to bump him up next off season to active roster.
If you want to watch nearly 40 minutes of his college play, to get a better idea of who and what he is, here you go. No sound, just highlights.

In the pre-draft interview someone posted above, Sloter said that while his arm was among the best, he felt his accuracy was "second to none." Pretty impressive accuracy in and outside of the pocket in this film.
