Diggs/Zimmer article
Funny article. I guess we live in a world now where the coach shouldn't expect players to follow direction. Diggs felt 'betrayed'....lmao, so dramatic. Cousins production and the offensive output was quite good, you'd think the team was averaging 9 points a game or something.
Its really about maturity levels and that never gets talked about with 'divas'. I loved Diggs when he was a Viking and its no surprise how well he's doing in Buffalo. If Mahomes doesn't play Sunday, bet the farm that the Bills are in the Superbowl. And if that somehow in the media's eyes prove that Diggs was 'right', then so be it. Zimmer ain't perfect but he's far from a tyrant also. A tyrant doesn't seek out help, admit to weaknesses and try to think outside the box like Z does. I think its possible the team suffered at times with his learning curve as a HC, but he's beyond that.
2021 will be an interesting year in Minnesota. Diggs's success has been mitigated big time with Jefferson's success.
Sticky, that might be all true but its not like this is the first article about Zimmer being a douche. I was a yuge Zimmer guy but I’m done. For whatever reason he lost this team in the second half of the eagles nfcc game. What did he say or do in that lockerroom that night?
Anyway you shake it, its time to move on.
He skipped meetings.
He skipped practices.
Fuck Diggs.
@"BarrNone55" said: He skipped meetings. He skipped practices. Fuck Diggs.Right. Zimmer can definitely come off as a douche because he's old school. I would imagine that if we skipped meetings or skipped work our bosses would be quite pissed off at us as well. I'm happy Diggs is having success but let's not act like he handled the situation better than Zimmer

Imagine the typical talk radio fan if the Vikings had not drafted JJ...
We lucked out big time with Jefferson but Diggs was right about things with the offense. I am sick and tired of the offense being handcuffed. No more holding back. It's a scoring league and they have to evolve. I am happy for Diggs regardless of the so-called drama.
Diggs went from 102 receptions in 2018 to 63 in 2019 in each season that he played in 15 games. If you were in performance based pay position and your employer reduced your opportunity for performance by 40% wouldn't you be upset?
There is no argument here, Diggs proved he was right going to Buffalo and leading the league in receptions with 127 and yards with 1,535 and is currently leading in both categories in the playoffs as heads into the AFC Championship game on a team where all his teammates and coaches have called him the ultimate leader, competitor and team player. On the Vikings he was known as a good WR who caught the Minneapolis Miracle, in Buffalo he is known as the best WR in the league who helped transform the Bills into a Super Bowl contender and helped turn Josh Allen into a premier QB.
I can understand being defensive of your team and coaches, but look at the lackluster performance of this team. They play with very little fire, they never seem prepared for a game. They play the Bears twice a year and you would think they had no clue what they were going to run every year. Our offense is awesome against the below average teams and when the game is not on the line, but when the game is on the line or in a big game they wilt. I am really happy for Diggs to have escaped the dysfunction that this organization is obviously filled with.
The way it all kind of transpired is still odd. In the end Diggs wanted to be the focal point of the offense and that wasn't going to happen here. He's proven he can be the #1 on a good team in Buffalo so I'd say he was right in a way. The missing practices and such during the season was not alright. I can't remember where but he did admit that wasn't the right thing to do. But in the end if the Bills hadn't offered a 1st + I think the Vikings were ready to hold onto him.
Plenty of blame to go around...
Thank goodness the football gods smiled on Eagan and let them draft JJ.
ISJ, AT and JJ...Compare that to some of the schlock skill players we watched on playoff teams this past weekend.

Agreed. Let's not kid ourselves that Diggs isn't talented, he is. Some fans want to ignore that. And this board would be all red-assed if Jefferson didn't basically have the year he had. So it turned out ok for everyone involved really, which is generally not how it goes.

Last year was quite off since both the 49ers and Vikings traded star players for 1st round picks and ended up breaking even or winning the deals. Its not usually how it goes. I would say the 49ers broke even on the Buckner deal with Kinlaw. I'd argue the Vikings actually won the Diggs trade since the money since they found a top 15 receiver and saved significant money over the next 3 years.

Disclaimer:
If the goal of the game is to make the team better and subsequently win the Super bowl then I think the Vikings did not win the trade. So as of this year I strongly believe the Bills won the trade. Yes the Vikings saved money but it is still to be seen what they do with the savings.
- Diggs has helped the Bills get to the AFC championship game. A level they have not achieved for a long time. Without Diggs they don't get there. The same Diggs helped the Vikings get to the NFC championship game.
- Diggs has improved the Bills team more than JJ has improved the Vikings team regarding, impact on the game, wins and losses, post season, heck even individual stats
- If the Bills make the super bowl let a lone win it, they are runaway winners of the trade

They traded a malcontent, got younger, cheaper, and potentially better at the position. Jefferson had no off-season to get ready. All he did was rewrite the record book.Fuck Diggs. He's a whiny bitch
Zim is a dinosaur in this league. Time to move on. I see no way the Vikings are going to be serious contenders for the next 2-3 years.
I totally understand that we look at what Diggs did and contrast it to our own jobs, and yeah - skip meetings, criticize your managers in the press, etc...most of us get fired.
But - these players want to be treated like NBA players or music rappers, and by those standards, or even the standards of many NFL superstars, Diggs was pretty low on the scale of disrespect. You can set a hard line against that behavior, but it's ultimately going to mean the Vikings are going to lose some of the best playmakers.
Also, there is a trend for players to get more "vocal" as they play a few years, get a second contract that makes them multi-millionaires. I remember a lot of praise for Diggs' attitude his first couple years here, much the way people are saying they like Jefferson so much for "humility" and "dedication". Will that last? Two years ago Zimmer himself was expressing how he loves Dalvin Cook's attitude...but there are signs that Cook, now super-rich, is getting a little cryptic with his tweets.
I just think we need to be tolerant of superstar players playing the diva card. Sports organizations from Pee Wee to College have treated them like celebrities. Successful NFL coaches have to be able to balance their needs and sometimes even coddle them.

Lolz ya, one player was the difference for the Bills. If we would have that same one player LOOK OUT, we may have won 8 games. Trade was equal, both sides won

Diggs didn't single handily bring the Bills to the AFC Championship game. A strong offensive scheme, Josh Allen, and a good defense did. If you insert Justin Jefferson on the Bills I wouldn't be shocked if they are still getting ready to play this upcoming weekend. Honestly I think the Bills would have simply taken JJ if they knew he would be this good so soon. But you can make that argument for a lot of teams. Jefferson would have been a top 10 pick if they redrafted tomorrow.

He is a pretty big target for Allen. They compliment each other and make each other better. That is definitely a huge win.
Every article that I've read about the Diggs trade fails to mention that the Vikes still have two 4th round picks (Buffalo & Chicago) in this upcoming draft as a result of the trade. The Chicago pick was Buffalo's 5th in last years draft that was traded for Chicago's 4th this year.
You can't accurately judge the trade until all compensation has been utilized.

It is, I'm not disagreeing with that but it's not like Josh Allen only elevated his game on throwing to Diggs. Countless times in the first two playoff games he was extending plays and hitting other receivers not named Diggs beyond the first down marker and close to out of bounds. Diggs didnt elevate the defense to only allow 3 points to the Ravens. Diggs has been a big piece to their success but they easily win the division without him IMO
