All I can say is hope and pray for the best for all of us down here near the coast of Texas. What we do know is that the flooding will be catastrophic. Let's hope that the weather forecasters are wrong on their predictions, as they are quite often.
Either way, we look like we are in for about a week of absolutely the worst possible weather we have seen around here in a long long time. Chances are I may not be able to inform you all on what conditions here are looking like.
Take care everyone. And for those of you who are down here with me, I just say please prepare and get out if you can. Hopefully all we will have to put up with where we are is rain and flooding. The flooding  but around here that is MAJOR problems. I'll keep you all informed when possible.

They are calling for voluntary evacuations for the landfall areas and almost all low lying areas along the whole Texas coast and into Louisiana. They cannot force mandatory evacuations in Texas. However it appears as if many are evacuating as they should. The Houston area is and will probably be the sight of flooding like never before. Rain is estimated in feet not inches along the coast. Houston area, hopefully, may escape the winds but because this storm will stall and move southeast along the coast and into Louisiana it's course may take 3-6 days before moving out of Texas.

stock up and hunker down... or get the hell out of dodge.  Do you know anybody a long ways away from the area ( like say Minnesota) that you could go stay with for a week or so? B)

be safe Jimmy.

Thanks everyone. We are running around fighting crowds for the last of the prep. We have many people that may be making it up to our house.

Its a Category 4 Hurricane now, jesus. There will be catastrophic and historic flooding in Houston. Keep them in your prayers because Texas doesn't force people to evacuate. Many stayed.

Stay safe Pops... I have an aunt in Houston and so far so good because not much has really hit there... yet.  She says they are staying put.  Good Luck to all in the path of this storm.

At least the landfall and the 130 mph wind missed all the major coastal towns.  The flooding if the rainfall is anywhere close to predicted will be awful enough without the debris and massive power outages if Harvey had barreled into Galveston/Houston.

Yeah got pretty lucky on where the storm hit. Had it hit somewhere else it could have been really bad. But they aren't out of the woods yet. They are saying this storm could stick around until wednesday

Heavy rain now in Splendora. We will be under a tornado watch pretty much all weekend. Currently it goes until 1pm today. I'm sure that will be extended. We do have a home generator so I'm not too worried about the electricity going out because that won't happen but the tornadoes are my biggest fear.

Hurricanes, record level flooding, and now tornadoes, wtf?  Flooding water is probably one of the most unforgiving fights with nature.  We've had a few battles up here with the Red River, and it's not something I want to do again.

Thanks for the updates.  I feel for you guys down there.  It seems unreal that amount of water and high winds can be dumped on people and all you can do is hunker down, wait it out, and forward with clean up.

Best wishes, Pop.

We've gotten about 4-5 inches of rain since about 7am so far.
We've never had water in our house but I'm sweating it now. I've been digging a trench this morning to ensure we don't.  It's  not that we are in a low are but more on whoever put the driveway in screwed up. It drains onto the porch if we get too much rain too fast. However we may not be able to leave our street for several days because of high water at both ends.
