Twitter rumors from several pretty solid twitter sources are strongly hinting that Teddy has been or is within days of being cleared to practice.  The rumors seem to be that he will come off the PUP sometime this week.  If this is true, things are about to get crazy.

This is incorrect from what I have been told.

PUP is Physically Unable to Perform. Not "play."  ...i guess that matters if the arguement is that he is "practicing," not "playing."

As soon as a player takes 1 practice after 6 weeks on the PUP, a 3 week clock starts ticking on adding him to the 53 or shutting him down.

If hes allowed to practice from day 1, doesnt that defeat the purpose of the clock that starts as soon as a PUP player practices? Wouldnt the PUP working this way give the team a 6 week head start on deciding to active him or shut him down and maybe give them a competive advatage of an extra roster spot?

I was reading being "cleared" when it comes to the PUP is by team doctors. Perhaps the Vikes legal team was angling to do what this thread is talking about by defining a difference in performance: practice vs games?

I think there is some confusion between regular season PUP and preseason PUP.

Preseason
A player who, as a result of football-related injuries, is unable to take part in training camp practices may be assigned to the preseason PUP list. Players can be moved off the PUP list to the active roster at any time, even after one practice. A player cannot be placed on the PUP list, however, once he has taken the field for a practice, even if only for a few minutes

Regular Season
A player who finishes the preseason still on the PUP list can then be placed on the regular-season PUP list. Such players must sit out the first six weeks of the regular season. At that point, teams have a five-week window in which to allow the player to begin practicing; from the day the player begins practicing, teams have an additional 21-day window in which to decide whether to activate the player to the 53-man roster. If either of those deadlines pass, the player must remain on the PUP list for the remainder of the season.

Wetlander has it correct.  If Bridgewater is able to practice with the team (everyone clears him), he comes of the PUP and cannot go back.  He could be placed on IR (which has a similar 6 week designation), but not PUP.

Cleared = Pass a team physical

Teddy's doctor could say whatever he wants; the Vikings run the physical and can decide whatever they want.

What does "cleared for practice" even mean? The Vikes run the physical he goes through to be reactivated.

Technically, if a doctor clears Teddy to practice, it doesnt mean anything. The team can say he failed the physical.

But, as far as being on the Reserve/PUP list and still physically practicing, no, he can't. After 6 weeks he has a 3 week window to return, and a 3 week window from his first practice to either be activated, cut, or IRed.

I dont really doubt the sources around here, but i would love to hear more about the angle. I enjoyed tuning out the kids tonight and learning about this. ... can we do it again tomorrow, with NDG in the house?!

I see "the fight" between the two sides being this: Teddy "thinks" he can play and is willing to prove he can pass a third party physical that proves he's "able to perform." The NFLPA files some shit and force him off of the PUP while the integrety of the Vikings' physical he failed is questioned.

If things go "bad," its right there.

For Teddy, he'd come off the list, be in the same protected situation he's in now, probably still be "off" for 6+ weeks as a backup, and be able to control his immedeate future.

This needs to happen pretty quick if its gonna... i assume Teddy already took a team physical before being placed on the Reserve/PUP and that those wheels would be in motion now, if they even are at all...

I do.   Twitter sources, lol.  Vikefans sources, lol.   What a crock.   It's just social media circle jerking like everywhere else.

Teddy is on PUP and that was always going to be the case, Vikings brass wants it that way and reality is his knee still isn't healed and for allwe know may never be functional again at the NFL level.

@"greediron" said: lol.  Teddy is a member of the Vikings.  We have had lengthy debates about 3rd stringers here.

It was a devastating blow to the team when Teddy went down, and it still resonates in the minds of fans.  No one mentioned Bradford, just talking about the status of Teddy and how it affects the team going forward.  So if you don't want to talk about average at best, then that is fine.  Don't drag contract/PUP status into a phantom debate about Teddy/Bradford.

Last time I checked, I can post whatever I want.... it justs seems awfully strange that fans of a team talk more about a QB that isnt playing and his "spiritual" tweets and him being "such a nice guy" over the teams starting QB. Teddy may be part of the Vikings, but at this point so is Shariff Floyd, I don;t see all your posts about him being a nice guy, great tweets, and so on.....

maybe if our starting QB gave us something to talk about... anything to talk about we could be having that discussion.  I support Sam,  but that guy is whiter than vanilla ice cream. ( and i am not talking about skin color)  he is almost a robot on the field and with a camera in his face.  Teddy has endeared himself to much of the fan base and continues to interact with them.  Sam can be Sam and Teddy can be Teddy,  no harm comes from either,  but you cant get pissy about people talking about Teddy and not Sam when there isnt anything to discuss about Sam.

There isnt?  did you watch the games last year?? he was amazing, deadly accurate with no OL or Running game.  I'm sorry that you like the glamour of Teddy endearing himself to you, for now, until he can be traded to Miami... if you like glamour and endearment go watch the WWE  I will take the robot with the laser arm and accuracy

yes Bob,  lets rehash last years successes.  I think its been covered that Sam did a great job coming in overcoming all the obstacles,  but honestly... This year... what has Sam said or done that merits a positive discussion?

you can really be difficult to converse with, you have to go into full FU mode anytime it isnt rainbows and unicorns.  have fun talking to yourself.  Im out.

I can be??   Wow. Kettle meet pot   How are you doing???

We're not even at week 1, and people are naysaying Sam's achievements for this season?!?!?!

Is this actually a thing that's happening??

Amazing.  Grim and ridiculous, but also amazing.
