  • Vikings agreed to terms with NT Michael Pierce, formerly of the Ravens, on a three-year, $27 million contract.Pierce is a truly elite run-stuffing nose tackle, and he'll replace Linval Joseph in Minnesota after Joseph was released to save cap space before signing with the Chargers. 27-year-old Pierce tips the scales at 6'/345 and will be a foundation piece on early downs before coming off the field in passing situations. He looks like an excellent run stuffer and someone who can command double teams, which Joseph could do for a long time, but was struggling with last season. He did have some weight issues in training camp last year, which is a concern since players tend to add weight over their career and lead to him playing about 40 snaps per game last year. Should be able to have Stephen rotate with him, but hopefully he can get in better shape here.

Ravens were 5th in run D, 4th the prior year.

And run D was a big problem last year. He can't fix it single handedly, but solidifying NT is a great first step.

Killer signing, and sneaky good just about exactly the way Linval was. 

I assume Jaleel rotates with him. Is the end for Shamar 2.0? He can't rush the passer like at all. So there's no point in rotating him at 3T. What are the cap implications of cutting him?

Just mentioned Pierce as the top guy to replace Joseph on air with @MatthewColler earlier today. Pierce has been a top 5 run-stopping NT over the last 3 years. He is an immovable object with heavy hands that can also reset the LOS.

Cap number is $5 and change, dead money $2,666million. So...since we are busy setting record amount of dead cap for the franchise...NEXT!
