Packers' Aaron Rodgers gives surgery update on Instagram
Posted by: purplefaithful - 10-20-2017, 04:22 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (10)

Rodger thanks fans for their "love, support, thoughts and prayers" in a photo of himself in a hospital bed posted on Instagram. It's not clear where the surgery took place.
The two-time NFL MVP broke his right collarbone in the first quarter of Sunday's loss to the Minnesota Vikings after he was hit by linebacker Anthony Barr and landed hard on his throwing shoulder.
Coach Mike McCarthy said this week that Rodgers' season could potentially be over. Backup Brett Hundley, the Packers' fifth-round draft pick in 2015, is now the starting quarterback.

Okay, been a while. I’ll try to not make this too long. (I
failed)

Damn. I spent HOURS getting this together and it tells me that it is too long to post. I'll post what I can and finish it later.

Right now, we have these two.

The blond one is Betty. She is transporting to Vermont today
(Friday). We’ve had her for about 6 months. We have no idea what she’s been
through. She still is uncomfortable around me. We think that a male must have
abused her. She took to my wife and will snuggle with her, but if I approach
her she’ll walk away. We’ve taken her out in public and while on a leash, she’ll
let people pet her but she really only trusts my wife.

We think they’ve found the perfect home for her in Quebec.
Single lady who wants a quiet, well behaved dog. My wife has talked to her and
Betty seems to be a perfect fit. That lady is really excited to meet her
tomorrow. I think it’s going to work out.

Now, for Sammy (the black one). He came from a real shitty environment.
There were three dogs caged at some house. All three were aggressive. It’s like
they never were around humans. All three were taken to a shelter. They wouldn’t
let any humans come near them. The first one to let anyone come close was
Sassy. We think Sassy and Sammy are siblings.
Here's Sassy.

Sassy let a worker there give her treats and eventually let
him pet her. So, we took her in and she did great. She’s in Pennsylvania now,
doing great. They had to put one of the dogs down. She was way too aggressive.
We hated that but you can’t win them all.

They had Sammy scheduled to be put down but my wife talked
them into letting us give him a chance. We brought him home in a portable
crate. When we transferred him to a regular crate, he tried to attack us. We
kept him in the crate all night.

The next day, he was slowly coming around. All of our dogs
(including Betty) had already sniffed him through the crate so they weren’t
that interested anymore. Around mid-morning my wife (I went into work for a few
hours that day) opened up his crate and just left it opened. After a while he
ventured out and started exploring. He ended up letting my wife pet him.

My wife called me with the news. She said he was real sweet,
with these funky front paws. They’re huge and they point out to the side. His
elbows stick out too. He’s fucking adorable. I came home and he wasn’t too sure
what to make of me but we bonded pretty quick. By that night he was sleeping in
the bed with all of us and fit right in. We think this has got to be the first
real home that he has had.

He was scheduled to transport to Penn. about 3 weeks ago. I
said my goodbyes and went to work. My wife dropped him off at the vet where the
transports happen and went to work. They called her and said that no one could
get near him and could she come back and help load him into the van. I told her
just to take him back home but she said that he should go. He went straight to
my wife when she got there but wanted nothing to do with the van. My wife
called me and said he’s back home and we’ll deal with it later. I get home
later and he is happy as a clam. Whole body wriggling and tail thumping.

We’ve been taking him out to try to get him accustomed to
strangers. Here he is at a local dog-friendly brewery sipping a cold one.

I think we’re going to have to keep him. He loves our place
so much that it’s heartbreaking to think of him going somewhere where he’s
scared. My wife says to be patient, we’ll work with him and be able to transport
him whenever he’s ready. I’m not so sure. I’m like we’ve got four, what
difference does five make. We’ll see.
The first real test will be this weekend. We’re leaving for
Edisto Island this Sunday for a week (we’re stopping at a bar in Charleston at
noon to watch the Vikings/Ravens…..can’t miss that). No dogs allowed at our
condo. We have a girl that stays at our house with our dogs whenever we go out
of town. We don’t want to burden her with Sammy, so our local rescue woman is
going to pick him up Saturday and have him stay with her for the week. We’ll see
how that goes. I still think we’ll end up keeping the little fucker.

Andrew Kramer: Will FA reshape the Vikings DL?
Posted by: purplefaithful - 10-20-2017, 02:42 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (1)

A Vikings fan asks: "Which of these veteran d-lineman do you foresee playing for the Vikings in 2018: Tom Johnson, Robison, Stephen, Sharrif Floyd?"A: Three of those four, not including Robison, are set to hit free agency this spring. I could see all returning except Floyd, who we’ll get to later. So really it comes down to two key interior defenders. Johnson isn’t blowing up the box scores, but he’s improved his play against the run this season and would be an asset on any D-line. Stephen, the former seventh-round pick, has developed into a reliable role player. Given the time invested and Stephen’s development, the Vikings may value him more than another team. Robison is likely to stick around after restructuring his contract this spring to add the 2018 season, potentially his last. He’s still got it, posting a team-high five QB hits out of the Vikings’ 13 on Packers quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers and Brett Hundley. Out of those three, Johnson would be the one most likely to go since the Vikings have long-term plans established at the other three positions along the defensive line.

Pro Football Focus ranks Vikings as NFL’s best defense
Posted by: Kentis - 10-19-2017, 11:34 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (1)

The Minnesota Vikings’ defense has terrific numbers through six games, ranking fourth in yards per play allowed and fifth in points against. Pro Football Focus rates them even better than the numbers, slotting them as the No. 1 defense in the NFL in a recent article ranking all 32 defenses.

I saw this clip earlier this week and couldn't believe how Flacco faked effort to make a tackle.  I can't believe his team has any respect for him.  Look it is one thing for an older QB to make a matador attempt at a tackle, but this is perhaps the most pitiful attempt by a 32 year old, 245 pound QB.  Keep your eye on him:

Teddy Bridgewater: I'm Motivated to Play Football in 2017
Posted by: PurpleCrush - 10-19-2017, 06:08 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (3)

http://www.vikings.com/news/article-1/Teddy-Bridgewater-Im-Motivated-to-Play-Football-in-2017/73ffa766-0492-49e3-8053-2a9447fb6956

Teddy Bridgewater has been all about mini milestones, the past 400-plus days.He reached a significant one Wednesday afternoon as he returned to practice for the first time since suffering a severe leg injury in a preseason practice almost 14 months ago.
Bridgewater met with the Twin Cities media on Thursday and said he had been dreaming of taking the practice field at Winter Park for over a year.
“I’ve been thinking about that moment every day. I used it as motivation,” Bridgewater said. “I used it to tell myself, ‘Hey, I’m one step closer.’
“Being out there and running out of that tunnel yesterday, it did something to me in a good way,” Bridgewater added.
Bridgewater suffered a leg injury on Aug. 30, 2016, in a non-contact drill. He missed all of the 2016 season after throwing for 3,231 yards and 14 touchdowns while leading the Vikings to an 11-5 record and an NFC North title in 2015.
While returning to practice was a major step in his return to football, Bridgewater said he has bigger goals for himself going forward, even while he keeps the same day-by-day approach he’s used during his grueling rehab process.
“I definitely believe I’ll play this year,” Bridgewater said. “But I can’t just sit here and say it, I have to put the work in on the practice field and show the training staff or the higher authority that eventually I can get back to the player who I was.
“Right now, I’m focused on practicing and being around the guys, interacting on the football field before I think about playing in live action,” Bridgewater added.
The former first-round pick said he has total faith in his leg that was injured less than two weeks before the start of the 2016 season.
“I’m very confident. I wouldn’t have went out on that practice field if I wasn’t,” Bridgewater said. “I’m going to continue to work hard. I’m going to continue to strengthen it and get more mobility and gain more confidence.”
Bridgewater’s teammates said that although the former first-round pick hasn’t played football in more than a year, they still regard him as a team leader in Minnesota.
The 24-year-old quarterback was a team captain before the injury wiped out his entire 2016 season.
“Guys really respect what he does,” said Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen. “The most important thing as a leader is having guys around you that respect you and actually listen and trust what you’re saying. We have a lot of guys in this locker room with a lot of faith and trust in his abilities.”
Stefon Diggs, who missed last week’s game with a groin injury that he suffered in Week 5 at Chicago, did not practice Wednesday but did observe part of Bridgewater’s return.
“I wasn’t out there too long, but when I was out there, he looked great,” Diggs said. “If that doesn’t inspire you, I don’t know what will, somebody coming back from an injury like that with a smile on his face, ready to go and get back to work. I’m just happy he’s back.”
Bridgewater said Thursday morning that he thought his first practice went well, and that he showed little signs of rust. The quarterback said he bulked up a bit over the past year and felt like he had more zip on his passes.
“It was great to be back out there yesterday working with the guys. It’s been a long 14 months,” Bridgewater said. “But it was great to be back out there and see the reaction from the guys, reaction from the fans. It meant a lot to me. I have to continue to get better now.
“I was feeling pretty good … I’d been working in the doghouse, in the backyard by myself,” Bridgewater later added. “To be able to get out there with the guys, it was pretty fun.”
Bridgewater said he is unsure when he will play this season, but added that he has gotten into his usual weekly routine of breaking down film, setting a sleep pattern and mentally programming himself to play.
He also said he’s ready to be tested physically — including taking contact — down the road, but added he isn’t going to rush into anything.
“You have to be smart with [contact] because the plan is to get to the race in order to run the race,” Bridgewater said. “If we’re not being smart and I’m not doing everything to get to the race, I won’t be able to run the race.
“That being said, we’re just going to compete at a high level and don’t hold anything back,” Bridgewater added. “Eventually when I get out there against an opponent, they’re going to be coming after me. It’s going to be fun.”
Through it all, Bridgewater said he endured ups and downs while rehabbing from a potentially devastating injury.
But he never lost faith along the way, always telling himself he would make it back.
For Bridgewater, returning to practice Wednesday was just one of numerous mini milestones to come.
“It’s not hard taking it day-by-day at all. I learned to appreciate each day,” Bridgewater said. “Each day I wake up, put my feet on the ground and am thankful. I’m able to walk, stand up on my own.
“There was a time I needed help and assistance,” Bridgewater added. “I learned to appreciate the smaller things.”
