Vikings Defense Ranked #1 by PFF
Posted by: Cricket - 10-18-2017, 09:46 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (2)

https://www.profootballfocus.com/news/pro-ranking-all-32-nfl-defenses-after-week-6

1. MINNESOTA VIKINGSBEST-GRADED STARTER: Harrison Smith, S, 93.9
WORST-GRADED: Trae Waynes, CB, 46.4
The Vikings under Mike Zimmer have always had a strong defense, but they have been particularly suffocating this season, with Linval Joseph leading their run defense up the middle and Harrison Smith patrolling the back end along with Xavier Rhodes at cornerback. As a unit, this team has 101 total pressures through six games.

Floyd Joins Bradford On The Diggs List
Posted by: JustinTime18™ - 10-18-2017, 08:33 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (7)

Sam Bradford - QB - Vikings
Sam Bradford (knee) is not practicing Wednesday.

It might be better for us to wait until he actually does return to practice to blurb Bradford again. He's missed far more practices than he's participated in. Case Keenum is fully expected to start Week 7 against the Ravens.

Michael Floyd - WR - Vikings
Michael Floyd (calf) is not practicing Wednesday.

Floyd exited the Week 6 win over the Packers early and was replaced by Laquon Treadwell as the No. 2 receiver with Stefon Diggs (groin) out.

Stefon Diggs - WR - Vikings
Stefon Diggs (groin) remained sidelined at Wednesday's practice.

Diggs didn't practice at all last week before being inactive and is off on the wrong foot for Week 7. In his absence, Laquon Treadwell acted as the No. 2 receiver, while the offense ran through Adam Thielen and Jerick McKinnon.

RotoGrinders.com Daily Slant: Thielen took advantage of his opportunity last weekend, coming down with 9 receptions for 97 yards. He may have a better matchup than it appears on paper against the Ravens this weekend as he'll battle Ladarius Webb in the slot. When inside, Webb is allowing the most yards per cover snap (2.11, per PFF) and a 68% catch rate. As a unit, Baltimore is holding passers to the 2nd-lowest completion percentage (53.6%), 4th-lowest rating (71.1), and 5th-fewest yards per game (190). With the rest of the secondary playing so well, QB Case Keenum will likely need to pepper Thielen with targets all game, providing him some potentially sneaky GPP appeal.

Posted by: twgerber - 10-18-2017, 06:07 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (8)

Thought it was funny to see Bradford tied with Cutler for most overrated.

Reporters polled 155 players to gauge their opinions on the league's passers. Players were asked to identify their favorite rookie, the most overrated and the quarterback they would most like to sack.

Who got the most votes by NFL players?
Eli Manning 14%
Luck 11%
Flacco 10%
Cutler and Sam tied at 7%

Vikings rank #31 in the NFL in this offensive category? Lovely
Posted by: Montana Tom - 10-18-2017, 02:42 AM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (7)

According to ESPN current stats, the Vikings rank #31 in interceptions.  One.
To go along with a tie for 26th for sacks...Nine...

There's your offensive story.  Don't turn the ball over, protect the QB...it's not rocket science, it's execution.  Fun to watch our O line.  Keenum is a scrapper, I'd say.

Film review: Play-actions and personnel packages driving Vikings passing game
Posted by: purplefaithful - 10-18-2017, 01:01 AM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (6)

For a team that’s been missing its quarterback for all but six quarters of the season, the Minnesota Vikings have had pretty impressive production in the passing game.
The Vikings are ninth in total passing yards, eighth in net yards per attempt and sixth in team passer rating. That’s not quite what you would have expected when starter Sam Bradford went down after Week 1.

While Case Keenum deserves credit for his aggressiveness – which is not always a trait seen in backup quarterbacks -the combination of offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur’s scheme and the Vikings’ offensive line that have allowed them to be successful.
Heading into the Vikings’ matchup with the Green Bay Packers, they were the NFL’s best team when throwing play-action passes, gaining 12.7 yards per attempt, according to Football Outsiders. Keenum was successful again against Green Bay. Much of the reason for play-action success is Shurmur’s use of the offensive line and their execution in both the pass and the run.
