Keenum is the answer for the Vikings at qb now but he can't be later
Posted by: purplefaithful - 10-27-2017, 01:44 AM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (7)

If their game Sunday goes as expected, they will by this time next week be choosing between their injured franchise quarterback, the injured franchise quarterback they acquired to replace the former, and a quarterback who will have won five of the seven games in which he has played this season.

This is where it is important to be able to distinguish between fish, and chips. The Vikings need to be wise enough to discern which quarterback is an entree, and which is an accompaniment.

His record in games in which he has played this season is 5-2, placing the Vikings among the top teams in the league, but his game-by-game synopsis is less impressive. He played poorly against Pittsburgh, brilliantly against Tampa Bay, poorly against Detroit, and well enough in games against Chicago, Green Bay and Baltimore.
He threw for 369 yards and three touchdowns against a Bucs defense missing three of its best players. Since then, he has not thrown a touchdown pass to a wide receiver, has thrown two touchdown passes and two interceptions, and has not topped 239 passing yards while missing receivers deep, either with his arm or eyes.

On a team relying on defense and rushing, Keenum has been good enough to win against the soft portion of the schedule. The Vikings have faced rookie Mitch Trubisky, Packers backup Brett Hundley (after Aaron Rodgers was injured) and slumping Ravens starter Joe Flacco during their three-game winning streak. Keenum has done his job by not losing games that the defense was capable of winning on its own. What we’ve seen this season is exactly in line with Keenum’s career.

Sticking with Keenum might feel safe, but the organizational goal is not to slip into the playoffs but to win a Super Bowl. Keenum can’t get the Vikings there. Bridgewater or Bradford, if healthy, would give them a puncher’s chance.

13 Screws in Rodgers' collar bone.

Sorry if already posted -- but this sounds really bad. I broke my collar bone when I was a kid and no screws. So did my sister. I've never heard of such a thing. Did it just shatter?

  Hi from London
Posted by: Nichelle - 10-26-2017, 09:53 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (21)

The Vikings are here and so are we! And, believe it or not, we've already run into some Browns fans.

http://www.vikings.com/media-vault/video...3d17ae848e

The plan is to see a few London highlights, stop into the KFAN broadcast at the local pub that's the 'Vikings pub' for the week, hang out there again for Vikings night on Saturday night (meeting up with some local Viking fans) and then head to the game on Sunday.

The last time we were here a few years ago it was the winless Vikings against the winless Steelers. The brochure circulated to advertise this year's game has a picture of Greg Jennings on the cover and mentions Adrian Peterson. Times have changed.

Just wanted to check in since we are here reppin' Minnesota!

  VELSPAR WEEK 8
Posted by: PapaScott - 10-26-2017, 08:42 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (2)

In 2009 the VIkings made it to the NFC Championship game in New Orleans.  The defensive coordinator, Greg Williams put a bounty on Brett Farve.  In 2015 Greg Williams’ Rams defense knocked out QB Teddy Bridgewater on a controversial late hit.  I’m certain that Head Coach Mike Zimmer is fully aware of what is instore for Sunday’s game vs the Greg Williams Browns defense.  The winless browns team will not be overlooked by the Vikings and while Zimmer won’t do it, It would be nice to see a sideline play end up with Greg Williams on the receiving end of a tackling pile.  Recent Viking history has left their opponents limping, and carted off the field and this week should be no different.  The Vikings control their own destiny in a trip back to the NFC North Title and The NFC Championship game.  I know there is a lot of games yet to be played but they are in the driver's seat and sit 1 game behind the eagles for best record in the conference.  Blood is in the water….
Velspar Week 8 is Here

Fast Facts
The Minnesota Vikings are Undefeated in international play.
Before last Sunday the Vikings had only won 2 times versus the Ravens (98’ and 09’ and reached the NFC championship game each time)

If You Wanted To See The #1 Overall Pick On Sunday

Myles Garrett - DL - Browns

Browns DE Myles Garrett (concussion) is out for Week 8 against the Vikings.

He won't accompany the team on their trip to London this weekend. This is Garrett's fifth absence of the year after sitting out the first four weeks with a high-ankle sprain. He's been phenomenal when healthy, recording four sacks in only three games for the winless Browns.

Case, Reiff, And Diggs Full Practice

Riley Reiff - T - Vikings

Vikings LT Riley Reiff (knee) got in a full practice Thursday.
Reiff sat out Wednesday, but it appears as if that was just a maintenance day. The left tackle should be good to go against the Browns.

Case Keenum (chest) got in a full practice Thursday.
Keenum was limited on Wednesday, but the issue never seemed serious. He will start Sunday against the Browns.

Stefon Diggs (groin) practiced in full Thursday.
The Minneapolis Star-Tribune's Ben Goessling reported there was a "good chance" Diggs would return this week, and this practice puts him on the right track. In a good matchup against the Browns, Diggs will jump right back into the WR1 mix.

Case Keenum limited in practice; Zimmer acting coy about Sunday's Vikings quarterback

Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer remained coy about Sunday's quarterback situation, not naming Case Keenum the starter.
Keenum was listed as "limited" in practice Wednesday because of a chest issue.

Resiliency Is Now Part of the Vikings’ DNA
Posted by: PurpleCrush - 10-26-2017, 02:31 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (1)

https://www.si.com/nfl/2017/10/26/week-8-minnesota-vikings-mike-zimmer-quarterbacks-sam-bradford-case-keenum-teddy-bridgewater

There was a point in the Vikings’ 2016 season when things went from rough to ridiculous.“When our head coach missed a game,” recalled tight end Kyle Rudolph, over the phone Wednesday night, as he got ready to board a redeye for London. “It was just hard. You know how much it means to him, and how much he wants to be out there with us. And talking to him that week, I could see how much it bothered him. It’s one of those things you can’t control. That was definitely the low point.”
Mike Zimmer’s absence for that Thursday nighter against Dallas came after—and pay attention, because there’s a lot here—the Vikings lost Teddy Bridgewater to a freak, non-contact injury in August, lost their two starting tackles for the season, saw the tailback who was the face of their franchise go down for the year in September, and switched offensive coordinators in October. Then, there was the aforementioned eye problem that forced Zimmer to wear an eye patch on the sidelines and endure a string of eight surgeries.

Few who went through it could remember a more bizarre, star-crossed season. And yet, it became one that set the stage for everything that’s come as the Vikings have navigated a similarly strange 2017. Through half of this year, and since the opener, Minnesota’s gone into just about every week without knowing who the quarterback would be on Sunday. And it hasn’t knocked them off course one bit. The Vikings are 5-2.
“What I love about coach Zim is I know that’s not even a conversation,” said tailback Latavius Murray, signed as a free agent last winter. “Coach Zim’s method is ‘Why speak about it and even let it become a distraction?’ I’m not saying it doesn’t matter who’s lining up at quarterback, but whoever lines up at quarterback, we believe in him. So to bring it up—‘O.K., Case will be starting this week,’ or ‘Sam will be starting that week,’ it doesn’t come up, because we believe in everyone here.

  Lets have a property discussion?

So who is in the right here?

https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/realesta...li=BBnb7Kz

I am torn on this one,  on one hand I know many instances of our govt overstepping their bounds in their dealings with private land owners,  especially in the western parts of the US.  However,  these land owners get some sweet heart deals on this federal ground adjacent to their properties in terms of grazing leases and without these deals their ranches would never likely support enough livestock to make a living so really they are being little bitches here.

IMO,  they need to honor these century old public access points or work with the forestry service to create alternate access on their properties.  If they are unwilling to create a working access then IMO they are not eligible for grazing leases and if they are not willing to allow access to the federal ground then in times of wildfire their properties will not be given any special attention.  If the govt is not allowed across their lands in the good times... dont call them when the shit hits the fan.  our countries foresty mis-management plans are a major reason that we have had the horrendous wild fires we have seen in the last 5 years or so,  limiting access to those lands only further elevates the chance for future disaster level fires.
