With late sack, Everson Griffen extends streak to eight games, ties Vikings record
Posted by: purplefaithful - 10-29-2017, 08:22 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (1)

LONDON — As the clock ticked down Sunday at Twickenham Stadium, Vikings defensive Everson Griffen was antsy.
After sacking opposing quarterbacks in each of the past seven games, Griffen didn’t have one as the final minutes of Minnesota’s 33-16 victory over Cleveland rolled around. Finally, with 2:51 left, Griffen broke through around the left side of the Browns’ offensive line and took down DeShone Kizer for a loss of 10 yards when hard-charging Harrison Smith flushed the Cleveland quarterback into Griffen’s grasp.
“To be honest, kind of (worried),” Griffen said when asked about his sack streak. “But then (Smith rushed Kizer) and he saved me.”
Griffen has at least one sack in each Vikings game this season, and has 10 for the year. His streak of eight straight games with a sack ties him with Jim Marshall and Jared Allen for the team record.

Charley Walters: Vikings’ QB situation remains a three-for-all
Posted by: purplefaithful - 10-29-2017, 08:16 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (2)

The way it looks now, the Vikings will let quarterbacks Case KeenumSam Bradford and Teddy Bridgewater — each of whom can become a free agent after the season — go through the end of the season before deciding whether to offer contract extensions.
Despite the team’s 5-2 record entering Sunday’s game against hapless Cleveland (0-7) in London, the Vikings’ QB future remains unsettled. Keenum has been adequate in guiding the offense after Bradford’s sidelining knee injury.
A case can be made for an extension for Keenum, 29, who is paid $2 million this season, but he’s still viewed as a reliable backup who probably can’t get the Vikings through the playoffs.
The Vikings are expected to wait to see which of the QB trio is healthy, evaluate how he played and then try to re-sign him. Regardless, they will need to draft a QB in the first round next April.
The guess here is that Bradford, paid $18 million this season, won’t be re-signed. And Bridgewater’s knee makes him a conundrum. But it won’t be surprising, if by Thanksgiving, if either Bradford, 29, or Bridgewater, 24, is the starting quarterback.

Random Thoughts At The Halfway Point
Posted by: JustinTime18™ - 10-29-2017, 06:53 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (4)

Other than the defensive ranks at the halfway point, the single most impressive stat I can think of is one sack allowed in the last four games...that's got to be a franchise record...Keenum's legs definitely help as does typically playing with a lead...

10 FGs in the last two games...definitely cannot continue to settle for 3 the second half of the year...

Running game has been effective without Cook...I would like to see Shurmur get the ball to McKinnon more when Murray just doesn't seem to have it...would like to see more play action on first down...

Thielan is amazing... Other than the bad drop today he catches everything thrown in his area code...

We're winning games without big plays from the ST...coverage has been pretty good...kicking game has been excellent... Forbath seems to have added a few yards to his range...PATs still a concern, but it hasn't cost us yet...

We'll need to continue winning the turnover battle...

We can be better...little to no impact from guys like Diggs for the better part of the last four games and Hunter for all but one game...if these guys get untracked...

I'll take 4-4 to close out the regular season, but if we get a healthy Bradford back we could easily top that win total...

  Joke For The Day

I called an old classmate and asked what he was doing.
He replied that he was working on. "Aqua-thermal treatment of ceramics, aluminium and steel under a constrained environment."
I was impressed. Upon further inquiring,
I learned that he was washing dishes with hot water under his wife's supervision.

When he was telling reporters that hotel staff said his team was the most well-mannered team they ever had stay there. He was like I have to brag on my players for a minute. That was so cool.
