Wanted to acknowledge that Trae Waynes played a really good game yesterday.  I've been pretty hard on him so thought it would be good to eat a little crow.  Good job Trae.

Oh my. This was the initial fear @Vikings had with Teddy Bridgewater’s dislocated knee. Prompted ambulance. Best wishes to Zach.

Vikings escape London with win but face big questions during bye week
Posted by: purplefaithful - 10-30-2017, 11:46 AM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (5)

Minnesota put itself in bad position early with negative runs and penalties. This game should have been decided well before the Vikings started to pull it together in the second half.
The chaotic nature of Minnesota's fourth straight win highlights the flaws of this first-place team, one with several questions to answer during its Week 9 bye.
What it means: The Vikings escaped London with a win, but the biggest issue on offense remains at quarterback. Keenum stepped up to convert big third downs and showed glimpses of being able to establish a deep passing attack. He also had a number of passes batted down early and struggled with accuracy. Keenum finished 27-of-43 for 288 yards passing, two touchdowns and an interception. But it should have been easier against the winless Browns. The Vikings' window of reliance on Keenum is closing. They'll need to use the bye week to determine how they're going to manage the position going forward.
What I liked: Adam Thielen entered Week 8 with the most receptions (43) without a touchdown catch, per ESPN Stats & Information. Keenum used Thielen to get the ball moving downfield, which resulted in the receiver's first touchdown catch of the season. But the offense really got going once it turned to Jerick McKinnon. The versatile rusher was a big threat in the passing game, totaling 72 yards on six catches and 50 yards on the ground. He notched his second game of 100-plus yards from scrimmage this season and stepped up big in the backfield.
What I didn't like: The defense had issues establishing a pass rush because of the speed at which Cleveland ran plays. The Vikings are going to face a lot better offenses than the Browns' in the second half, so that was a bit alarming. A week after allowing just 64 yards in the run game, Minnesota gave up 115 to Crowell, Duke Johnson Jr.and DeShone Kizer. The defense didn't come up with any interceptions but did register a big fumble recovery on a muffed punt to give the Vikings good field position. Unfortunately for Minnesota, Keenum and the offense stalled and had to rely on a field goal.
What's next: Minnesota heads into its bye week at 6-2 and has to address what it's going to do with its quarterback situation. Sam Bradford reportedly traveled with the team to London but has not practiced in more than three weeks. The Vikings' 21-day window to activate Teddy Bridgewater off the PUP list closes in another week. While it looks likely that Bridgewater will be moved to the 53-man roster instead of IR, the question that now needs answering is how soon they'll turn to their former starter and whether Bradford is healthy enough to get his job back after the bye. Keenum showed some OK moments against the Browns but has looked more like a backup in his last two games. The Vikings are in prime position to control their own destiny at the beginning of the second half. They need to figure out what's going on with their starting quarterbacks before they continue their playoff push.

McKinnon needs to remain the lead RB
Posted by: StickyBun - 10-30-2017, 10:06 AM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (11)

He's so versatile. His running instincts may be subpar, but they are good enough. His receiving ability is top-notch. He's more elusive than last year and runs with power. Fast. Spell him for a series, but he's got play-making ability at the position.

Lions Vs. Packers - What's Best For Vikings
Posted by: ThunderGod - 10-30-2017, 03:10 AM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (11)

OK, the Lions lost to the Steelers today and are 3-4.  Vikes are 6-2.
The Lions play the Packers next week so who do you root for?  Do you want the Packers to loose and get buried further in the division or do you want the Packers to win and get more cushion between the Vikings and Lions before we get into the stretch run?
As much as I would love to see the Packers completely buried and finish behind Chicago in the division, I think I have to go with what's best for the Vikings and that is to get a big enough lead in the division that we don't have to worry about the one loss to the Lions in December.

Zulgad: Keenum deserves credit, but all signs point to Teddy Bridgewater taking over
Posted by: purplefaithful - 10-30-2017, 12:30 AM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (27)

Case Keenum has earned accolades at Winter Park for helping to guide the Vikings to five of the six victories they posses entering the bye week. That includes a 33-16 victory over Cleveland on Sunday in London that improved Minnesota to 6-2 and will put it atop the NFC North during the week of rest.
It appears likely that Bridgewater soon will be back on the 53-man roster – the 21-day window to make a decision will expire next week – and an NFL Network report Sunday indicated that he could challenge Keenum for the starting job for the Vikings’ first game out of the bye, Nov. 12 at Washington.
Zimmer did nothing to quiet this speculation after Sunday’s game when asked about having to make a decision on his starting quarterback.
“Hopefully, I have a decision to make,” he said. “I don’t know that yet. We’ve got two days of practice next week, got another day of practice (the following) Monday. We’ll sit down, we’ll evaluate everything. Case has done an unbelievable job. He’s done what we’ve asked him to do. He’s come out and kept things rolling and we’ll just figure it out as we go. I don’t know, we’ll see. I hope I have to make a decision.”
If Zimmer does have a decision to make, meaning Bridgewater doesn’t suffer a setback, it’s hard to believe that the coach won’t make the switch to a guy who was seen as the Vikings’ long-term solution at quarterback before he crumpled to the practice field in late August of last year at Winter Park. Bridgewater, whom the Vikings took with the final pick of the first round in 2014, led Minnesota to an 11-5 finish and an NFC North title in only his second season.

Report: Bridgewater could play in Week 10
Posted by: purplefaithful - 10-30-2017, 12:26 AM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (10)

The Minnesota Vikings could get Teddy Bridgewater back under center after the bye week according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapaport.
“The expectation now is Teddy Bridgewater is healthy enough to return to the team and on the field after the bye [week],” Rapoport reported Sunday on NFL GameDay Kickoff. “If that happens, expect him to be activated off the [physically unable to perform] list and then compete for the starting job. This is a player they consider to be their franchise quarterback. I would not be surprised, based on what I know, that he’s under center soon.”
The Vikings have one week remaining in the 21-day window to activate Bridgewater from the Physically Unable to Perform list.

Rapaport is also reporting that things aren’t looking good for a Sam Bradford return.
“It doesn’t sound like Sam Bradford will be ready soon,” Rapoport said. “They do have the bye week coming up, but Bradford did not practice this past week. Last I checked in, he was still dealing with some knee pain that kept him off the field for most of this season. There is, at this point, no timeline for his return.”
