Vikings' decision on Teddy Bridgewater looms as questions surround Case Keenum's ceiling
Posted by: purplefaithful - 10-31-2017, 11:06 AM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (2)

The Vikings head into two bye week practices as the winners of four straight, behind a quarterback who has directed all but six quarters of their 6-2 start.
At the halfway point of the 2017 NFL season, Case Keenum ranks 12th in the NFL in completion percentage. His passer rating of 88.8 puts him 16th in the league, just between Matthew Stafford and Philip Rivers. By ESPN’s Total QBR metric, Keenum has been the seventh-best passer in the league this season, a shade more effective than Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson and Matt Ryan.
Why in the world, one might ask, would the Vikings think about making a change? Because behind Door No. 1 might be the quarterback on whom they’d staked their franchise only three years ago.

Brees, Cousins, Draft Pick Or Teddy To QB The Vikings In 2018
Posted by: JustinTime18™ - 10-31-2017, 11:04 AM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (35)

It's looking more and more like Bradford is done...Vikings have already said they won't toll Teddy, but I'm not sure he can show enough in the next 8? 7? 6? games to prove worthy of a long term, 8 figure deal...the D and OL are championship caliber...add a fully recovered Cook, and all you need is a trigger man to pull down a Lombardi...
Brees would be the most expense, probably looking at a 2-3 year deal for between 55-85 million, if not more...Cousins would want a 5 year deal in the neighborhood Stafford got...you could probably grab a guy like Mayfield late in the first, early in the second and see what he's got while some vet keeps his seat warm and hope you grabbed the next Deshaun Watson...
Regardless how 2017 ends up, we will be dipping into the QB FA or draft pool in 2018...

Wasn't Trevor Siemian the next good young QB?

Another guy the media crowned early last year. Looked like hot garbage last night and has struggled this year.

Stop calling Adam Thielen a great story, start calling him a great receiver
Posted by: purplefaithful - 10-31-2017, 01:00 AM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (9)

The odds of Adam Thielen making the NFL were about as long as the Cleveland Browns making the playoffs this year, but his great background story – undrafted out of Mankato – in some ways is a holdup from giving the Vikings’ star receiver the credit he deserves.
Thielen isn’t great for an undrafted guy, he’s just great. And with Stefon Diggs out or slowed by a groin injury for the past few weeks, Thielen has made quite clear that he’s among the best receivers in the NFL. That was on display again in London as he grabbed five passes for 98 yards. Thielen could have had even more if a 40-yard pass hadn’t been called back for a chop block.

Vikings determined not to fall apart after bye this time
Posted by: purplefaithful - 10-31-2017, 12:57 AM - Forum: The Longship - No Replies

Defensive tackle Tom Johnson doesn’t deny it. The Vikings got caught up last year in reading their press clippings.
The Vikings were 5-0 entering the bye week, and all sorts of good things were being said and written about them. Then they collapsed, losing four straight games and eight of their final 11 to finish 8-8 and miss out on the playoffs.
After Sunday’s 33-16 victory over the winless Cleveland Browns at London’s Twickenham Stadium, the Vikings are 6-2 heading into their bye week. And they are determined not to have a repeat of last year.
“We’ve got to stay locked in,” Johnson said. “We can’t pat yourself on the back. We can’t take the cheese. We can’t listen to the media. We’ve got to stay humble and continue to grind.
“We definitely did (get caught up last year in what the media was saying). I think at some point in time we got complacent. We didn’t come out and execute like we were supposed to. So this year we’re learning from our mistakes, and guys are a little older and a little more experienced. We have great leadership, and we’re trying to continue to push through."
