Vedvik Cut!
Tom Pelissero @tompelissero
The #Vikings informed kicker/punter Kaare Vedvik they’re waiving him, per source. Vedvik – acquired three weeks ago for a fifth-round pick – could be back on the practice squad. But they’ll roll with Dan Bailey as kicker and Matt Wile as punter.
Great use of a draft pick by the current administration, but since they are professionals and I am just a fan I am sure I cannot comprehend why this will be shown as a good move.
Apparently the Jets are claiming Vedvik off waivers. Rumors are they are one of the team that the Vikings out-bidded for Vedvik's services...
Bailey was the best kicker before they traded for Vedvik and he still is now.

Once again the brain trust pisses away a draft pick and then doesnt give it a chance to work out. The kid moved half way across the country, gets dumped into a new city, a new lockerroom, and is given less than 3 weeks to settle in.... this was a dumb ass move if they weren't going to commit to it more than that.
It's one of those damned if you try and damned if you don't. Fifth round picks are a day three commodity pick, the last pick in the 5th round next year ain't gonna be that big a deal.

Tell this to Diggs. On another note, I thought draft picks were valued commodity?
Don’t despair, Rick already has five 7th rounders going into the next draft... ;)

its called cap management, we couldnt have afforded that 5th rounder any way so we might as well throw it away instead of wasting time on a potentially decent player that wont make the team when we can bring in 5 camp bodies for much less money and not look as bad when they dont stick.
Not only has he not kicked in a regular season NFL game, he only made 10 field goals on 16 attempts during his college career.
It'd be interesting to run it back, taking him entirely off of the FG unit through Camp and pre-season games. Put him at punter and PK exclusively, let him hold exclusively and see if it ends differently...
I still just cannot wrap my head around how confident the front office was over this as a viable field goal option. You can't expect a punter who's made 20ish field goals to replace Dan Bailey. The saving grace is what Sticky said; it's good we pulled the plug, accepted it was wrong, and moved on.

Basic panic move...
Speaking of Vikings trades, Minnesota caught some flak for trading a fifth-round pick for kicker/punter Kaare Vedvik and then cutting him a few weeks later. Vedvik struggled during the preseason, and Minnesota opted to stick with Dan Bailey as their kicker. The Jets ended up claiming Vedvik off waivers, but Minnesota apparently wanted him back. The Vikings had offered him a spot on the practice squad and he was likely going to accept before New York claimed him, Tomasson tweets.
