Vikings working to re-sign Mike Priefer, per reports

Seems silly to announce.

The fanbase is lukewarm on him and his contract is up. Either we resign him to some groans or he takes an offer elsewhere and now we scratch our heads on why he would want to leave.

Be quiet and you can sell whatever happens as "what the team wanted to do." If you're gonna resign him just do it. Don't shake the beehive...

Well this encourages me to think we won't settle for anything but the best.

He seemed the perfect Ricky scapegoat (yeah, I drafted Carlson, but HE couldn't coach him up!)

That makes, what,  THREE kickers/punters drafted by RS? How many are still on the team?

At the time, I think everyone was in agreement they had to move on from Carlson. Even Carlson said he had zero confidence that he could make kicks. What's puzzling to me is how quickly he overcame that with the Raiders after making some minor adjustments. Why was Priefer unable to identify that and help him make those same adjustments? Why have kickers continued to struggle on this team under his coaching? That alone would have made me look elsewhere before resigning him to a new contract so quickly. 

Outside of the obvious kicking issues, when is the last time we ran a good fake punt.  We got burnt on this several times this year.
Be less predictable.  If we would have ran a fake punt this year, I would have probably just dropped over dead with shock.

Why are we resigning this guy? Haven't we suffered enough? This dude ruins kickers.

yawn, when the record keeps skipping and playing the same tune over and over and over and over and over over and over and over and over and over over and over and over and over and over again, people stop listening.

His development of kickers is indeed disconcerting, but I have no problem with the punting from Wile who seems to be an upgrade from Quigley "Down Under". Wile was certainly MVP in the Bear game.
We were middle of the pack on receiving punts, yardage, etc. but are top ten in punt coverage, punts inside the 20, etc.
Like the rest of the staff, this might be Priefer's make-or-break year.

I saw this the other day and I would be very disappointed if they retained Priefer. He's had enough chances already.

The Carlson debacle alone should get Priefer canned.  Give up 2 picks to trade up and draft a Kicker higher than any kicker in team history.  Cut the veteran kicker who was at least decent in preseason.  Rookie kicker blows it in preseason, then falls apart Week 1 going 0-3.  Make snap decision to cut rookie Kicker.  Sign mediocre replacement.

Watch rookie kicker be picked up by another team and hit 16/17 FG's by tweaking his mechanics.  

And now we're going to reward that failure with another contract?

Only the Vikings ... we're hopeless.
