Quick upside and downside to all 3 of our QBs from 2017.
Keenum
Upside: Led team to NFC Championship Game. Downside: May have reached his full potential
Bradford
Upside: Clearly most talented of the 3 when healthy. Downside: Hasn't stayed healthy.
Bridgewater
Upside: Last two full games he beat the Packers and, essentially, the Seahawks. Downside: Hasn't played since 2015.
Not that any of this is news. But those are your choices. Unless you go off the board for Cousins. Honestly, I don't think the front office can get it too wrong. The problem is that the two who we don't keep will likely have success elsewhere that will eat away at us inside.
Happy Wednesday!
I think you need to add that with Bridgewater theres no telling if his knee is "back". The odds of coming back from a knee dislocation are small. Do we want to put a SB team in the hands of any QB with that type of injury without knowing damn well he's his old self?
Yeah. I've said elsewhere that our choices boil down to a guy with a bad knee, a guy with a bad knee and a guy who was a one-year wonder (like Scott Mitchell or Matt Cassel). All that backed up by a guy who couldn't stay on the Broncos because their QB depth pushed him out.
But I try to be positive.

If he'd gotten into the end zone even once against the Seahags, I'd be able to support that statement more. Sadly, it was the Blair Walsh Project that scored (and infamously failed to score) all our points that day.

No, Mark, if you were trying to be positive you'd say our choices boil down to a guy with elite arm talent, a guy with elite IT factor and a guy who won 13 games last year. All that backed up by a guy who last preseason went 31 of 43 for 413 yards, 3 TDs and 0 INTs for a QBR of 125.4. :-)
If you were being realistic-copy and paste the above paragraph and add the following qualifiers: (and a bum knee), (and a bum knee), (and who has the accuracy and field vision of Andrea Bocelli), and (who was playing wide receiver two years ago).
the overriding feelng is that Case had a career season and theres no way to replicate it. and NO ONE is suggesting he could improve.
not sure i agree. i see no reason why he cant impove in the years to come.
all year weve been waiting for him to blow it. he didnt.
we are easy to credit Shurmur, but disregard Keenum. out here on the west coast i saw a lot of Rams games with him behind center. both his online and MULTIPLE drops by his receivers made him look worse than he was.
NFCC game you say? thats not all on Keenum.
kid has some moxie
sorry crappy editing...using my phone

Sadly, it was the Blair Walsh Project that scored (and infamously failed to score) all our points that day.other than the broken fluke play nobody got in the end zone that day and the team liked to put the ball in AP's hands when inside the red zone. Technically you are correct but that game was unique with the cold and the two teams playing. I don't know that I'd pump up the performance but I'd hardly hold it against him in that situation. Each Trip into the red zone they took the ball out of his hands until the inevitable 3rd and long-The franchise back fumbled and couldn't get the yards when they were need 23 carries 45 yards and a fumble lost that lead to the winning FG. If we lay it at the feet on one guy lay it at the feet of AP and the camel he rode in on.

If you have 3 QBs, do you have 1? That's kind of the question in my mind.
Honestly, I'm glad Flip is here to assist in this because I don't feel Zimmer nor Spielman are top notch guys to assess QB talent.
Was talking with my sons football coach, (Redskins fan) when I mentioned the Cousins to Vikings possibility he said,
"you guys DONT want Cousins...he's always playing from behind, so his numbers always look good, he throws picks at the WORST possible time."
he thought it was crazy we haven't extended Keenum already

And even against the Packers the game before, with the division on the line, Teddy threw for only 99 yards with 0 TDs and 1 INT. He also led the offense to only 13 points. The defense is the reason we beat the Packers and won the division that year.

Did he mention why he is always playing from behind?
Perhaps he will have the opportunity here to actually play with a lead and not try to do too much.
Bottom line is in his first season (2015) starting they made the playoffs.
In his second season (2016) they went 8-7-1.
He drove them to the go ahead TD against the Lions with 1:05 left in the game. Score was 17-13.
The defense proceeded to let Stafford drive and get the game winning TD.
He drove them to the 16 yard line against the Bengals in London in overtime only see the kicker miss and the game ends tied.
Get those wins and they finish 10-6 and make the playoffs again.
In 2017, the team let both of his receivers go and he had to make do with new ones that did not do as well. He had no running game either. And the defense was terrible against the run.
I don't know.
You got a player who in his first two seasons they make the playoffs once and should have made it again if not for the defense.
Yes he threw some picks that were not good. Considering he was a young QB in terms of games started it was not that bad.
I like the fact that he also accounted for 94 TDs in those first 3 years starting which was top 6 in the NFL over the last 3 years.
Everyone wants to talk about picks and fumbles but no one wants to talk about those TDs.

I thought it was surprising also and consider two things.
1). They may not be all that interested in Cousin’s considering the cap hell it would put them in and they be using Cousins to keep Keenum’s numbers down.
2). If this guy is worth $30 million a year, why don’t the skins want to hang onto him? Who ever lets a top money QB FA just walk without any offers from his current team? I dont recall this happening before.

TB beat the Packers and essentially the Hawks????????????
That is comical, Thanks for the laugh. What part of 99 yards 0 TDs and 1 INT had any effect on that win by TB over the Pack?
I guess the 2.6 QBR he posted was inaccurate that day, the numbers must have been wrong.
The hawks games was just average for him, 1 of 8 games with less than 160 yards, 0 TDs. Just another average game day for TB.

If you don't already know the answer to #2 do your homework. It has zero to do with Cousins and his skills and everything to do with Snyder and his bruised ego over the RG III fiasco and everyone knows it. Period.
Word has it that Bradford would be willing to play for less. Wants to stay in Minnesota and raise his family there. Saw it on Twitter.
Bradford is also the best pure passer of our group...he's just not as mobile. Not sure how that fits the new OC's QB requirements. One has to wonder about the relationship between the two going back to Philly.

while yes it is on snyder, you also have to look at cousins as well as he was butt hurt with the tag the first year and really wasnt willing to negotiate with them after that. he is a decent QB, but I dont think it was too insulting 2 years ago for the team to want to see him replicate the previous years effort. snyder is a tool, but this is as much about cousins bruised ego as it is danny boys. its not like cousins was forced to play for peanuts under that first tag and certainly got rewarded handsomely this last year.
@"lakeerievike" said: Word has it that Bradford would be willing to play for less. Wants to stay in Minnesota and raise his family there. Saw it on Twitter.Interesting. I would be more than willing to have Sam back here, but not as the unquestioned starter simply because of his injury history.
Teddy has a similar scary injury situation, but to me, Sam has shown a lot more ability in the NFL than Teddy has (I know Teddy is still young), and his latest injury was nowhere near as severe as Teddy's.
If Sam is really over his latest injury and it doesn't look to be a permanent issue, the ideal scenario for me would be to resign Keenum and Sam, but I don't see how you could do that unless Sam was indeed serious about signing for quite a bit less with possibly an incentive-laden contract.

It's hard to judge a guy based on doing his job of handing the ball off all game.
But... I do agree with you. There's a lot of romanticizing how good Teddy was and how high his ceiling is. He was given a shot to show his stuff because AP was out of the league. Then he made the playoffs on APs legs.
Sure... he's young. The sky is the limit for him. And for all I know behind closed doors he could look like the second coming of Joe Montana in practice. He says the right things. He has a solid work ethic. He's been associated with no scandals.
What he has behind him is a sense of hope. Every quarterback who's made it on an NFL team has footage that is impressive. Is it possible that he becomes another Gannon for us and tears it up a few years down the road? Sure. Is it probable that he is an NFL starter next year who is worthy of the arguments centered around his potential this offseason? Not at all. It's a stretch that he's a starter next year. It's a bigger stretch that he's a playoff contender next year. Even if he were to be handed the keys to the Minnesota Vikings.
Just because you have access to a Ferrari doesn't mean you can put anybody in the drivers seat and they would win a race against other professional drivers. The engine counts for a lot, but the driver has a job to do.
