5. Minnesota Vikings2017 record: 9-2
Week 12 ranking: No. 4
Sam Bradford played well before his injury, and Case Keenum has been great with Bradford out. As a result, the Vikings have the best team Total QBR (74) this season. Give credit to the pass protection, too. The Vikings have allowed 12 sacks this year, tied for fewest in the NFL.

win 7 in a row and move down 4 spots.

are these supposed to be where we rank in the league,  or in terms of likelihood of winning this week?

Wetlander posted this in another thread as well, but the methodology from ESPN below:

"Methodology: These rankings are based on which teams voters think would win head-to-head matchups. Higher-ranked teams would be favored against lower-ranked teams. Coming off a win doesn't guarantee a jump, and a loss doesn't guarantee a fall."

Pretty much a joke of a power ranking, especially since the Vikes just held the team that is ranked #3 (Rams) to 7 freaking points...

Actually, we were ranked #4 last week so we moved down one spot.  But it's still completely asinine.  And the team he moved ahead of us?  The %$!%@#$! Rams, who were #6 and jumped ahead of the Saints, Vikings, and Steelers this week.  Nevermind that we completely kicked the shit out of them the week before....

I was reading the comments  in the ESPN rankings and everyone was calling them out about not knowing a damn thing about football and the system they use makes no sense with Vikes dropping and Rams leap frogging us.

NFL.com got it right - he has us at No. 3 - behind Philly and Patriots.

ESPN's has been pushing the Saints and Rams for the last month trying to stuff one or both above the Vikings.  After beating the Rams last week's version might have been the most accepted across the board all year when skimming through comments (Eagles, Patriots, Steelers, Vikings).  They win a tough division game on the road and drop one spot while the team they just beat jumps three spots and above them with a home game against a non-division opponent missing starting DBs and also beaten by the Vikings.  Makes sense.

As I and many fans always say, it's better to be winning and not ranked high by them, but there is a pretty long-running pattern.  It seems like most of the time the Vikings are the lowest ranked of the teams with the same record and usually lower than a team or two with a worse record... like this week.

When it comes to the ranking of the Vikings and Steelers it's hard to argue with putting the Vikings above them.  They lost to them but the rather last minute QB substitution was a factor.  They can be a really good team so the other way is acceptable too, but they're also really inconsistent.

ive seen the "last minute" thing suggested many times in regards to Case taking over for Sam.  I dont recall it that way,  wasnt Case taking the starters reps most of the week but it only became official when Sam couldnt go in warm ups?

Bradford was limited that week and Keenum was getting reps but reports were on the positive side that Sam would be able to play.  I believe the teams even expected him to play as he wasn't ruled out until "last minute" and it was pretty surprising to most.  It was said by some Steelers they didn't even realize Keenum was in until after the game had started.  So while Case did get reps during the week I don't think he was probably as fully prepared as he would have been knowing all week he was starting.  Plus it was his first start for the team.

Did anyone read this little gem from Florio @ PFT?

4. Vikings (9-2; No. 4): They’re starting to feel like a potential Super Bowl team. Which means that the inevitable implosion is coming.
