Cook
I know we're still right around middle of the pack with Jet/Murray... but man each and every week I find ourselves missing him more and more, O-line is solid, good WR/TE group. QB is steady if not exciting.. but every time he touched the ball, he had HR potential.
It was a real kick in the gut when he went down. I truly believe he'd be pushing for 1,000 if he was playing right now...it is a real bummer. Here's to hoping he comes back next year and tears it up (the field, NOT his knee).
Having a home run threat like Dalvin takes a lot of pressure off the QB. Jet and Murray are doing a decent job but Dalvin would be scaring teams if he was playing.
Cook is special. If we can keep Jet they are going to be a great combo for a long time. Jet is looking much better than Murray. Murray looks like he is outrunning his feet. Hell, he trips over the LOS every time he touches the ball!!! Jet is damn tough for a small guy. I am very impressed with him, but Cook is special.
I'm still pissed about that injury: the dude was special. Understood pass blocking. A totally talented and instinctual runner. Good hands.
Cook was the kind of running back that is complete. Man when he went down I was just so upset. Just a breath of fresh air compared to the old one dimensional back he replaced.
When I heard the news, my thought was "here we go again" our season is screwed up and basically over again.
I hope Cook heals like AD. But I would add another RB this off-season just in case. I expect Cook will be better in 2019 than in 2018. At least McKinnon is having an outstanding year. Murray has been a disappointment.

Do we count on him as the feature back or do we look in the draft 3rd round plus?
Jet is a free agent. Murray can be cut cheaply I think?
Of course we have the rest of this season to watch what we have but still do we count on Cook as the guy game 1 next year?

I don't think it's too much of a leap to expect someone as young as Dalvin to make a full recovery. That said, always need tail-back depth and I think Jet is a FA after this year?
I don't think the FA market will be as promising for Jet as some think. Yes he has had a nice run of games lately, but it wasn't to long ago that people here were expecting him to be cut. Also the RB position has been heavily devalued IMO, look at rosters around the league at how many teams have 2 or 3 guys that could be considered starters.
Murray has looked decent at times and shoud improve and we also still have ( I believe) rights to Sankey who looked pretty good in camp so it's not like the cupboard would be bare if we lost Jet.
I think Cook will be fine and probably better than most by the time training camp starts as his injury happened fairly early in the season. From all accounts, the injury was a clean one with no complications and surgery went well.
Cook will be fine, but we still need a solid backup plan as Cooks history was one of getting dinged up a fair amount.
OK, so it does seem that we can expect Cook back next year in good health.
Early rounds - QB, G, LB, S ???

I am not sure we need to look for a guard that early. I am likely going to want to see a priority of QB CB LB and then OL. Yes Berger will likely be done, but between Isadora Easton anD Sirles I think we are ok at guard. I would maybe look more for another OT project to take Hills place when he moves to RT in 2 years or sooner. Kicking Remmers inside to Guard is always and option also.

Losing Cook has not effected the rushing standings of the MN Vikings.
3T will be a big need for this team next year...DT rd #1!!

Interesting stat, thanks for compiling. But I would argue that a player that dangerous impacts a team in other ways. I wonder, for example, how the passing stats were affected before and after. No one is going to stack the box too much against Jerrick and Latavius. What's more, Cook had established himself as a very good running back, but he had yet to strike fear in the hearts of DCs everywhere. That comes with breaking a few 60 yarders. And he almost certainly would've done that by now, which would've had a huge impact on how defenses play us.
I don't mind Murray, but he's primarily a North South runner and isn't afraid of contact and needs a lot of carries per game. So he's gonna get a lot of short yardage.
IMO, in a backfield sharing situation, he's just not going to be explosive like Cook. But he's not a bad receiver, just with the 6 receptions he's had, I think he should see more.
Sure would hate to lose Jet to someone like the frickin packers though.
That would irritate me just a bit.
