Rod Stewart had to be given oxygen on stage a week or two ago and now Lionel Ritchie on stage had to end his Earth/Wind/Fire show early after falling ill.

On one hand? I applaud them for getting out there and being vibrant/active...OTOH? Might be time to chill a bit more.

This probably won't be popular but its stupid. Stewart is 81...Richie is 77. Who wants to see these guys 'performing' at their age? They can't sing anymore. Stop the madness.

Seen Willie Nelson perform 3 times in less 6 yeas.

First time about 3 hours non stop (2012) The Backyard Live Oak Amphitheater.. I proposed to my wife that night

Second about 1.5 hours (2015) Moody Theater NYE

Third it was shaky and maybe 45 min (2018) Bell County Expo

Oh ya Loretta Lynn in her 80's about 3 songs and she sat down.

Yeah, not sure what the draw is. I am sure their vocal abilities have declined sharply. And they certainly can't perform.

I blame the people paying for tickets. What a waste.

I think it really depends on the performer, some have defied time and can still perform, but many are a waste of time and money.

Why isn't Chuck Foreman in the Hall of Fame?

Ann Wilson is in rough shape, like, singing from a wheelchair. I dunno, is it really worth it? Is it even entertaining? And Elton John, man that guy lost his voice. The voice really goes when you're old.

That said, some of the concert vids from Rush's tour opener are pretty good for 70 somethings. New drummer gives them a lot of energy and Geddy Lee got a voice coach so he's not as totally screechy as in the past. I'm not a huge fan of the band but I've been entertained by this recent content.

Here's the best vid I've found if you're interested. I'm kinda blown away by how good bootlegs can be now, it's a long way from the shitty stuff on cassettes that we had in the old days:

What’s nice about Neil Young is he never sounded good.

Saw Todd Rungren a couple years ago and he was spot on.

I was a big Elton John fan when I was a kid. A friend offered me free tickets to go see him on his farewell tour and I told her no. His voice in the early 70s was fantastic, but I haven't been able to listen to him sing for 20 years or more. The voice does tend to go when you're older, but that's not always the case. I'm no fan of Iron Maiden but that guy still has it at 67. Geddy Lee can still sing at 72, even though his voice is an acquired taste. Bono is singing better now than he ever has at 66.

Lies!! OK, his tone has a twangy, Bruce Dern quality, but the guy could definitely sing.

The idea of paying to hear one of these old bastards singing live has to be one of the best scams going. For some, that nostalgia hits hard enough for the ear to hear what it wants to hear.....

he was only about 60 at the time, certainly not 80, but Brett Michael from Poison was still hitting all the notes a few years ago when I went and saw him with his band. You can tell those that try and live on reputation vs those that take their art/profession seriously.

I suppose you could call it a scam if the people buying those Lionel Ritchie tickets were told they were getting 25 year old Lionel Ritchie. I doubt that's the case though. :-)

You got the part right that matters: the concert ticket buyers want to FEEL 25 years old again......like I said, nostalgia is a very strong deluder.

I would still go see the Stones, and def Paul McCartney.

A friend of mine saw the Stones in either Seattle or Vancouver last summer...old fart Jagger was jumpin' up and down like he was 40 years younger...my friend was genuinely concerned that he was gonna have a heart attack on stage. They performed a 3 hour concert, to boot.
