Minnesota traded outside linebacker, Greenard and the 244th overall pick of 2026 to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for a third-round pick in 2026 (98th overall) and a third-round pick in 2027.

Trade: Vikings are sending former Pro-Bowl LB Jonathan Greenard to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for a third-round pick tonight (No. 98) and a third-round pick next year, per me and @rapsheet.

What do the Vikings save by trading Greenard?
Trading Jonathan Greenard to the Eagles will save the Vikings $12.25 million in salary cap space this year, and $22.3 million in cap space in 2027, while the edge rusher gets the raise from the Eagles he'd sought from the Vikings.
Edge rusher market has exploded
Clearly, Kevin O'Connell's words weren't enough to convince Jonathan Greenard he was respected. Not with him making $19 million a year at a time when the top edge rushers are getting $40 million, and when Will Anderson just got a record $50 million a year. Money talks. The Vikings clearly figured Greenard was not going to be consoled with anything they were willing to offer him. Shame. I voted for the guy for Defensive Player of the Year two years ago. He still has a lot of very good football left in him, but he obviously wasn't going to play here any longer for what he's making.

Wonder how Vikings will use 12 mil in cap savings.
Wilkins? 1 year prove it
or sit and wait for to post draft surprise cut/trade
or post Ota surprise cut/or a trade?
extend someone ?
or bank it for 2027?
They've got options.
In brez I trust.
Get ready for Philly fans releasing videos of their GM team laughing as they talk to us on the phone for that trade to get back at us for the videos we released of our GM and coach laughing when they took Reagor over Jets. This years third was a comp pick 2nd last pick of 3rd so essentially a 4th and a 2027 3rd has the value of a 4th, so we settled for two 4ths and if we had not bent over enough for them, we ended up giving them a 7th too, are you serious. I just do not get how you go through the draft, FA and trades without a real GM. The Wilfs have so mismanaged this team.

sheesh, we couldn't even get 2 3rds free and clear, Brez had to bend over even further and kick in a 7th. What an unfunny joke this FO is.

Consider that if we just kept Greenard, we would have gotten another valuable season out of him and then either a 3rd or 4th round comp pick, so in hindsight we traded him for what was basically one 4th round pick, we could have gotten much better value just holding on to him.
Tough spot for Minnesota and they got two 3rds for him. Like Brez said, doesn't make the team better as it stands right now but they weren't going to pay him that guaranteed money. Vikes had to dig out of the situation they are in and made a tough decision here for the future and the cap. Hit on those picks to ease the pain.

POSSIBLY gotten a compensatory pick for him next year, unless we signed some free agents and canceled it out. This was guaranteed compensation now, on top of the cap savings now and next year. I am sure they werent telling better offers to fuck off and were just waiting for this deal from the iggles, this was the best offer and keeping him would not have been the smarter choice if the goal is to get more out of Turner this coming year.
Why isn't Chuck Foreman in the Hall of Fame?

If K1 hits, we’ve freed up cap space in 27 so we’re in position to retain him. We’ve also cleared a path for Turner to take over the role he excels at. I definitely wanted a bigger return but this works especially if JT hits and we can retain Murray if he goes off.

Actually, looks like we got above market return for Greenard. Guess I’ll be posting a video of Howie bent over a chair being raw dogged by Brez on twitter.

Was there even any other bidder(s)? Philly is the only team that I heard of who was interested.
