Addison is a legit good WR.  He’s probably a 1000 yard receiver on several different teams.

Yes. The way I understand it, the Vikings have until May 1st to exercise (or not) Addison's 5th year option for 2027. I tend to think they will because it won't commit them to giving long-term money to a problematic player the way an extension would. It also gives them more time to decide what to do with him. They can still trade him in 2026 or 2027 (before the trade deadline) if they choose to.

I get what you are saying though, but I still think you could say the same for anyone that's got a track record that could get them suspended/injured for some games, and it doesn't ever really seem like it affects things contract-wise.

by that rationale then you need to carry a quality #4,  since the #3 is there to cover up for Addisons possible inability to stay active due to suspensions of some sort.

How is he overrated and inconsistent? When Jefferson was hurt two years ago, Addison played well in the WR1 role. Before we ran into QB problems in 2025, Addison had 1800 yards and 20 TDs over two seasons. Those are really good numbers. There are probably a dozen teams for whom Addison would be a WR1. I hope you're not referring to the dropped balls this year. I assumed we all knew what that was about.

Definitely,  the only knock on Addison when looking at his first 3 years body of work is his off the field shit,  other than that he is a guy you want on the field if you can afford him opposite JJet.

Yep..and the 53.2% catch percentage (42 catches on 79 targets)...also among the lowest in the league.  Picking up Addison's 5th year option is estimated to be around $17.6M.  My question is can we do better once we have to start paying Addison non-rookie contract $$.

who determines a catchable ball?  those blathering idiots that claim if they can touch it they should catch it?  we had shit ball placement  most of the season,  even on passes that looked "catchable",  if they are thrown with to much velocity become uncatchable,  especially if they are on cutting routes there the ball is supposed be leading the receiver coming out of the break and they find it on a back shoulder.... not much even the best hands can do to those.  remember its considered a target if the ball sails 3 yards over their heads or hits in the dirt in front of them.  there is no useful information gleaned from looking at our receiving group from the passes they were thrown this year.  the only consistency was the inconsistency.

I'm just asking if we're going to pay full price for Addison, is that the best alternative?

Justin Jeffersons 2025 catch rate is 60%, which is good for 133rd in the league.  Probably means we're dramatically overpaying him.  Not sure how we get out of that boat anchor of a contract.  Can't think of any confounding factors, so probably a much bigger issue than Addison given their relative contracts.

Again though,   shit QB play is going to affect catch rate,  unwatchable balls are still considered targets and affect the reciever catch rate.  Long passes have lower success rate as well,  and Addison is targeted on deeper routes quite a bit.  The stat is not a good picture of what is really happening.   Yes he dropped a few he should have had,  but that number in the 50s is very misleading.   On 79 targets he had 6 drops of record and again,  who decided they were legit drops vs shit throw or defender affected the catch?

I wonder if they'd be interested in swapping their problem (Aiyuk) for our problem (Addison) if they agreed to pick up a portion of Aiyuk's contract? I'd imagine with our cap problems that would be the only way to make that one work, but they might be willing to do it

Linking KJ to Nailor —not Addison. #3 is easy to come by in this offense

Yeah they would jump at that. Aiyuk is a bigger problem than Addison IMO. Forget about the ACL & MCL, and the fact that he makes $30M a year, which isn't much less than Jefferson, Aiyuk is a problem. Shanahan tried to reach him several times last year but couldn't. Left messages that were unreturned. Said he'd never seen anything like it in his 22 years of coaching.

Yeah, trading Addison for Aiyuk would probably be a fireable offense. Like there’s so many red flags that would need to be explained away before you could move forward with it. Why didn’t he come back? Is his leg just legit non-functional? Why didn’t he report to the team and maintain communication? Is there a good reason or is he dealing with some sort of mental illness/CTE that further complicates things? Odds are, you can’t just explain away the red flags in a way that makes him worth his giant ass cap hit. How much would SF have to give us to take this burden off their hands?
The Browns got a second to take on Brock Osweiler. I feel like they would have to ship his ass to a non-competitive team for assets, whereas we’re in the building portion of the rebuild not the burn it down portion of the rebuild.

The injury would absolutely have to be vetted, but for all the issues Aiyuk had with the coaching staff and front office in San Francisco, the guys never been arrested or suspended. Addison might legitimately be one bad night away from being suspended for a full season at this point. So which headache would you rather deal with? It's debatable. If all things were equal it would definitely be Addison on talent.
