On that non-throwing shoulder.
Okay...the franchise's season is resting on red-shirt rookie JJM and...(drumroll)...Max Brosmer?
Well, this ought to be entertaining. Or not.

KOC really wanted 1 more week of the line to try to get a little healthier and gel a bit. That line has been very rough so far this year.

No class move, there should be some kind of fine by the league.  I feel it was all about not wanting to have Brosmer outshine McCarthy, so they can avoid any controversy if McCarthy continues to look like he did.

Vikings quarterback Carson Wentz, who has started the past five games while J.J. McCarthy recovers from an ankle sprain, will miss the rest of the season.

Wentz will have surgery on his left (non-throwing) shoulder and was placed on injured reserve Monday. The 32-year-old veteran suffered the shoulder injury against the Cleveland Browns on Oct. 5 in London.

He wore a bulky apparatus to protect the shoulder in a loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday and said afterward he had “never worn anything remotely close to” it.

Wentz appeared in great pain several times throughout the game in Los Angeles. He was sacked five times and said after the game that it was “quite possibly” the worst pain he has played through in his professional career, but he maintained that he believed he could still contribute despite it.

“I asked him multiple times where he was at,” Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell said after Thursday’s game, also noting Wentz had soreness coming into the game off the short week of recovery. “He said he was good and wanted to keep going. It did seem like he was in pain there a couple of times, a few times.”

Wentz completed 110 passes out of 169 attempts for 1,216 yards and six touchdowns with five interceptions this season. He was sacked 19 times as the Vikings have also faced injury trouble on their offensive line. Against the Chargers, they were missing both starting tackles.

The Vikings play at Detroit on Sunday. On Monday, they claimed tight end Ben Sims off waivers from Green Bay. Sims started his career in Minnesota as an undrafted free agent in 2023, but was waived during final cuts after training camp. He has appeared in 37 games for the Packers, including six starts, and has eight catches for 63 yards.

McCarthy and rookie Max Brosmer were both at practice Monday, which was a bonus practice for the Vikings off their mini-bye after the Thursday night game. McCarthy, who was injured against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 2, returned to practice two weeks ago before the game against the Philadelphia Eagles but has yet to be marked as a full participant in any practice session.

The Vikings worked him out individually last Tuesday before the trip to Los Angeles, as the team only did walk-throughs, and O’Connell said Friday that the 22-year-old would also get work in then, hoping it would “lead him into a full week of preparation and feel positive about where he’s at as well.”

The Vikings do not have to release a practice report until Wednesday.

So that he can now have this controversy instead?

I guess I'm still leaning towards Wentz didn't want to come out, but KOC should have made an executive decision to pull him.

Wentz was truly a sacrificial lamb behind that line and KOC's play calling

And in his place we added TE Ben Simms of the Packers PS.

Why isn't Chuck Foreman in the Hall of Fame?

Wentz was gritty this year, loved his effort and leadership. His play style needs protection and or an effective run game.

I fault KOC for not protecting him by using the run game. I don’t fault him at all for keeping him in the game until it was out of reach.

I’m totally in on Wentz as our backup going forward, until Brosmer is ready to take that over.

Hmmm.

After weeks of "Wentz is the WORST!!" posts all over the Vikings' universe, now it's "KOC sacrificed Wentz behind the injured line...".

It's kinda all about that need to blame, isn't it?

KOC, JJM, Flores...make a good plan, or you'll be following Kwesi....

I think Wentz was put in a tough situation behind a makeshift line and got the piss knocked out of him and played hurt for a few games when he never should have. I don't buy the KOC didn't play Brosmer because he was scared he'd look better than McCarthy, but why he didn't go with Brosmer when Wentz was clearly hurt and ineffective is baffling.

Kudos to Wentz for gutting it out. I feel bad for him and he should've been pulled earlier

Nailed it.

It's not just going from "Wentz is horrible" to "KOC sacrificed poor Wentz." Don't forget KOC sacrificed Wentz "so Brosmer wouldn't outshine his young QB."

Nothing brings out the screaming mimis like an ass whoopin on national tv. Fire the coach! Fire the GM! Fire the owners! LOL

Ironically after the Eagles game I mentioned on here that Wentz' deep ball accuracy seemed extraordinarily trash (unspoken part- even for him) and wondered if his shoulder was worse than we thought. The blind squirrel hath found a nut.

So far this team is-

1-0 JJM
0-1 JJM playing hurt
2-1 Wentz
0-2 Wentz playing hurt

So fellas what do we think? Is JJM gonna be playing hurt vs Detroit or is he all better now? This team can still turn it around! Play the Lions tough, exit the game healthy, and see what happens. But if the Vikes roll over like we did against the Bolts, things are gonna get precarious fast.

Wasn't it Hundley that took over for Rodgers in 2017?
