...to paraphrase Belichick.

The Lions are looking like the NFC's powerhouse team, though I still think Man Campbell's decision-making is inept at times.

But whatever, it's obvious what they are while I don't know who we are at this point.  We have lost 5 in a row to Detroit and 6 of the last 7, and haven't posted a win at Ford Field since 2020.

We are 9.5 point dogs, the biggest road dog  line I've seen for the purple in many, many years.

Thoughts?

Anything can happen in this one, but I think this could be a game where the Vikings surprise some people. Fans and media tend to think teams are exactly as good as their last game, which is of course absurd, but nevertheless that's what people think.

I don't think the Vikings are anywhere near as bad as they showed against the Chargers. Just a week before, we lost a close one to the Eagles, a game we probably win with just Nick Mullens-level QB play.

With his tackles back, I think JJ McCarthy will play better than he showed in his last game, and a healthier Vikings defense will remember how to play football. I see a competitive 28-20 Lions win, with McCarthy flashing both arm talent and inexperience, throwing for 220, 2 TDs and 2 INT in the loss but Viking fans feeling a little bit better about the future. Could we win? Yes, but it would require one of those semi-annual Goff meltdowns. They happen.

There is only one other potential outcome in my mind, and that's a Lions blowout—a game where McCarthy shows no improvement, the defense continues to struggle and we get shellacked. I hope to goddamn hell this is not the case, because the purple world would turn upside down. Infighting, comments on social media—in short, a death spiral.

I think we're already there in a lot of places.  Help us Obi Wan McCarthy, you're our only hope!

Up to now, it's been restricted to fans and media, not the team itself. When it hits the team is when we're in real trouble.

Lions left tackle Taylor Decker is supposed to be back for this one, which is not great news for the Vikings. And the latest on Darrisaw is that he did not practice yesterday and some are saying this was not a planned rest day.

Vikings might actually emerge without any injuries from this game now:

No Kerby Joseph this week. Campbell said the safety is getting better, but needs more time.

I think there was some confusion about that. Darrisaw's clearly rotating work and rest days, and no one but the Vikings seems to know when it's planned and when it's not. Either way, based on the latest news, I'd be very surprised if we didn't have both our tackles back for this one.

I told my son that LaPorta going off on the first drive was actually a good thing. What you don't want is a QB hitting 6 different receivers on a drive. That means you're in for a long day. If it's just one guy, that's an easy adjustment. Vikings made it and LaPorta was much less of a factor after that first drive.
