Seven wide receivers who make the most sense for the depleted Vikings

Odell Beckham Jr.
Beckham won a Super Bowl in O’Connell’s offense with the Rams in 2021, but he turns 33 in November and he hasn’t had a truly productive season since 2021. Even that season was marginal for his standards as he finished with 44 receptions for 537 yards and five touchdowns — and then scored twice in the playoffs.

Amari Cooper
The 31-year-old had 44 catches for 547 yards and four touchdowns between the Browns and Bills last season. He made the Pro Bowl in 2023 with Cleveland and he still has some gas in the tank after racking up 711 catches and more than 10,000 yards in his career. In Minnesota, he’d take a back seat to Jefferson and Addison. Is that a role that he would entertain?

Gabe Davis
Davis is only 26 and his track record is impressive outside of his 2024 season with the Jaguars when he posted career lows with 20 catches for 239 yards and two touchdowns. Why the struggles in his first season with Jacksonville? He’s on record saying he played hurt with a meniscus injury before it knocked him out for good after 10 games.

If he’s healthy, he could get back to the form that saw him score 27 touchdowns in four seasons with Buffalo. Would he take a one-year deal to reignite his career with the Vikings? Like Cooper, he would play third fiddle behind Jefferson and Addison, which would likely limit his ability to command as much money as possible as a free agent next spring.

Four others...
Tyler Boyd
Brandon Powell
Adam Thielen
Cordarrelle Patterson

I would say Cooper or Thielen. Throw a 6th rounder to Carolina and bring Adam HOME!

Cooper or Davis would by my vote - depending on $$$/terms.

Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!

Always considered Boyd very underrated, not sure why he is not with a team, but he would be my first choice of the list, followed by Thielen.  Feel like they definitely need to add someone off that list not named OBJ.

Would be interesting to see how KOC would use Flash  :)

I'd love to see Theilen back to finish his career with the Vikings, and he would be a great get for an essentially rookie QB -- he will be where he is supposed to be with a great pair of hands.  Unfortunately, it is those same traits that likely keeps him in Carolina as a safety net for Bryce Young.  Plus, Theilen will cost something, whilst others out there are free agents.

Powell would be a safe bet -- knows the system, won't be an issue if he is the #3 or #4 or even #5 guy in the room.

I think if we sign or trade for someone, it's likely to be a former player like KJO or Powell. Was thinking Trishton Jackson would make some sense since he played here last year and looked good, especially with McCarthy in that Raiders preseason game. But unfortunately he was placed on IR last week after signing with the Cards in the offseason.

I don't think Thielen is a fit for KOC's offense. Everyone remembers the rumblings from him and his wife about feeling like he was being phased out and he bolted for Carolina once his contract was up.

It doesn't seem likely we'd trade for him or bring him back if he was cut. That ship sailed long ago, still have mad respect for him though.

Good point I had forgotten about.

It would be a guy with punt return experience, so Powell.

I said Cooper or Davis, but I agree, Powell makes the most sense...

Powell is the obvious choice. No idea why it hasn't happened yet.
