You want an athlete, draft Emmanwori. You want a safety, draft Starks. Starks is not a premier athlete. He is, however, extremely smart, versatile and instinctive. He's Brian Branch. I remember when Branch was drafted that he was a guy that BFlo would absolutely LOVE. I think Starks is going to be the same kind of player.

Brian Branch

Malachi Starks- only 4 safeties ran slower at the combine. Ran the slowest 3 cone at the combine. Ran the slowest short shuttle at the combine. He'd be right up there at the top of worst potential 1st round picks for the Vikings. Nevermind the fact that he's another Georgia safety coming from the same program where we just had one of the biggest colossal bust picks in franchise history. Let's just stop with the Malachi Starks foolishness. We could go in five other directions and get a bigger impact with our first pick.

The 4.5 doesn't bother me. It is straight line speed. I don't see how just because he is a Georgia S and Cine failed, that automatically means Starks will fail. Isn't that kinda like saying you wouldn't draft Jordan Addison because Nelson Agholor was a bust?

And Branch was a second round pick, a mid second round pick as he should have been. You don't use a 1st round pick and gamble on a safety with average to below average athleticism and that's what Starks is. Nevermind the optics of using another 1st round pick on another Georgia safety (fairly or unfairly). As much as I despise the idea of Thanos, I'd rather roll the dice on his athleticism and upside if we were distinguishing between the two. Starks is just a no go for me under any circumstance and I just can't see Kwesi (who absolutely needs to hit on this draft) potentially risking his job drafting another Georgia safety after the Cine shit show.

It doesn't, but its about optics and do you realistically see Kwesi taking that gamble? I don't. And I get your point but we didn't draft Nelson Agholor or use a first round pick on him. The Eagles did, and to my knowledge haven't drafted another SC receiver since then.

My point was, Agholor was a bust of a first round pick. That didn't stop us from drafting Jordan, in essentially to same spot of the first round. I was a huge Cine fan, it didn't work. I would be all for Starks and not think twice. Dude is smart. Intuitive. Understands what he is doing. His instincts are phenomenal. Don't let Cine get in the way of thinking he is a really good player.

I get your point, but again, we didn't use a 1st round pick on Agholor and then make the ballsy decision to draft Jordan Addison two seasons later. That's a comparable hypothetical. Using anothe premium pick on another player from the same school, same position that you just drafted a major bust from two seasons earlier. It would be a ballsiest of all time ballsy moves for a GM to do that going into the last year of his contract and to do it on a player who is subpar athletically. Not happening.

Agreed. Past results are no indicator of future performance, hence Cine = sucking doesn't equate to Starks = sucking. Each Draft is an entity unto itself.

But having said that, sign me up for this mock. Done and done:

Booker and an additional pick? That works. So much to like about Booker’s game already. That left side becomes elite. Reuniting with JJ is pure karma. I am starting to like Zabel a bit more as you have your future C in the lineup like Philly did with Beef Jurgens. Regardless, Booker, Zabel, or Harmon Day 1 is a win. Or Barron but I don’t see him being there.

That's my deal. If we go IOL, I don't really want Booker. I may regret saying that because he seems like a very clean prospect. But I think we need a guy who can either cover for Darrisaw (Jackson, Zabel) or eventually replace an aging Kelly at center (Zabel).

If we took Booker it gives you the option of kicking Brandel out to left tackle temporarily until Darrisaw returns. I think most of us believe Brandel is at least servicable as a backup swing tackle.

True, Brandel started a couple games at LT back in 2022. Skule would be an option too. He started a couple games at LT for the Bucs last year.

Yeah, you aren't going to pass on Booker because you need to fill in at LT 2 or 3 games until Darrisaw is 100%. If you want a more versatile player, just go Zabel. Not sure how many years we've been moaning on this board about not having great OGs or getting handled inside, take Booker and we won't be complaining about that anymore. Fries is set at the other OG thank god.

That's actually a pretty good draft too. Typically good grades means bad draft, but just getting Nolen, Harvey and Williams would be a home run.

I’m not crazy about Williams, at least not this one, as he doesn’t add any different value skill wise but…Frazier was my second favorite pick.

I'm not a big believer in diversity when it comes to the WR room. I remember back in the days post three-deep, we were always looking for the missing X, Z or slot guy. Back in 2016, we had Diggs and not much else. We needed the big power forward, red zone type complement Diggs and we got Laquon Treadwell. Taking fit over talent can kill you.

I don't know whether all the Williams hype is real or imagined--honestly, I haven't even watched the WRs much outside of Savion, but I do like Kyle's feet and routes. Some people are nuts about him.

Not crazy about Etienne, but I think he could work really well in this offense. I think Starks would be a great fit with Flores.

McLaughlin is an interesting guy. Achilles in November so I'm betting he gets red-shirted as a rookie. Wouldn't surprise me too much if he goes undrafted. But you might be getting a solid player in 2026.
