Bub bye D. Hunter, enter Jonathan Greenard, + other FA signings....
The #Vikings worked aggressively and are signing former Texans pass rusher Jonathan Greenard, per source. @RapSheet & @TomPelissero on it. A big move, securing a young edge with upside, likely to fill shoes of Danielle Hunter.

3 years younger than Danielle Hunter and arguably a better fit in Flores D

12.5 sacks last season. Let’s ride! https://t.co/SZimBR6itD
The silence on the DH front was deafening...
Greenard is a 3 down player. Physical vs run and will fit into Flores scheme where it benefits him to move around and play off other blitzers.

Younger, yes, an upgrade...? Not so sure about that.
10th in sacks last year, and they weren't empty calories---finished 6th in ESPN's pass rush win rate as part of a Houston front that didn't blitz much. Very complete player and only 26 years old. https://t.co/m6KYpxv3cI

All reports on him seem very positive, but seems like a gamble on a guy with one good solid season. Mostly bummed about this as is means won't be signing Hunter who I will really miss, one of our best valued draft picks ever and a great Viking during his time here, really would have liked to see him stay.
4 years at 76 million contract on NFL.com
Great younger, healthier, and fit signing. Probably cheaper at the end of the day.

Wilkins was going to the highest bidder....he said as much and it was well known. Pretty cut and dried.

Is it ever really about a coaches connection? The money always wins out in the end.
Well, they had to try and replace Hunter, I dont expect him to stay at this point.
I sure wish they could have improved idl this FA period.

Looks like a good signing at a good price, fingers crossed that he plays like a stud for us. Kwesi still holding the line on the cost-control, value approach. Let's hope this guy pans out a lot better than Marcus Davenport in that regard - at least he's not another injury gamble afaik.

Would have liked to see him here but when a guy takes big bucks from a crap franchise like the Raiders, I'd venture that it wasn't ever in the cards for the purple. And for all we know, Flores could be a reason he'd avoid Minnesota--he pissed a lot of people off in Miami in case anyone doesn't remember.

I dont think that aspect gets enough recognition, would be nice if the league would adjust the cap to reflect state income tax ramifications, but then you would have cola adjustments wanted for the big cities to balance that vs smaller markets.
So,, in the end it's evident that Kwesi never had a plan for Hunter.
I presumed that when Hunter wasn't traded before deadline it meant he'd be resigned.
Nope. Wrong.

Checkers.....
It’s not going to happen but a Hunter signing to pair with Greenard would take some sting off the Kirk news. Some.
EDIT- Or a JJ extension. A guy can dream.
Former Dolphins LB Andrew Van Ginkel agreed to terms on a 2-year deal with the Vikings for $20 million, including $14 million guaranteed. The deal was confirmed by agents Drew Rosenhaus and Ryan Matha.
