@"medaille" said: Am I reading the article correct?  LIV is offering him $300M + partial ownership of a team for 3 years work, compared to his lifetime earnings of $51M for the PGA?  Every single person alive would be stupid to stay on the PGA when that is the alternative.  I don’t think it’s fair to call him scum when the numbers are that large.

With PGA bonuses his earning have been 77 million and with marketing deals he is over 100 million.  Golf is not the NFL, the PGA has worked hard to put these guys in a position to make this kind of money.  So now you abandon the organization who provided you with that kind of living to go play for Saudi money?  What are you going to do differently in life with 300 million that you are not doing with 100 million?  Agree, it is sure tempting, but you and your kids and grandkids are already set for life for money, is it necessary?

Why is it scummy for an employee to try to maximize their
earning potential, but not scummy for the corporation to pay below market value
by using anticompetitive tactics to maintain it’s monopoly?

So 77 million is below market value?   PGA has made a tremendous investment in their brand, why shouldn't they protect it.  Do you see NFL players jumping to some of these other leagues?  How did that work out when they did years ago?  You want to talk about greed and unfair tactics, then look at the organization that is the LIV and how they are funded and what do you think their end game is?

Market Value (noun)-the price at which something can be sold the price that buyers are willing to pay for something.

So ya, if LIV is willing to pay $300m  then $77m is below market value. As for loyalty which you continue to bring up.  People trained to use the word loyalty in business are a scumbag employers wet dream. Loyalty is rarely a two way street. Loyalty in business is an owner gaslighting you to think your worth is less than it is and that you couldn't do better than them.

Employers are so loyal they will cut jobs on a whim to save a few bucks. Meanwhile you ask for a raise or better your life by leaving for more pay you are disloyal. Employers act like you owe them something because they gave you an opportunity. Cool beans, I gave you the opportunity to use my expertise to make you money.

I love playing (not so good) and watching golf. Having said that I am so sick of Rory and his self-righteous pals whining about everything.

Yep. I love watching Rory play golf, but this self righteous shit was ridiculous. Always was.

I love watching golf and I enjoy playing it a few times a year. But the sport at the pro level is a mess. Every week the tournaments are on different channels at different times. Sometimes on paid streaming services, sometimes free. Then you have the LIV tour that I don't think anyone watches or even knows when they play, siphoning talent.
As usual I don't have the answers but I wish the PGA Tour would get much more streamlined TV deals rather than the piecemeal nonsense they have currently.
The Majors are easy enough to watch but there's like 30 other tournaments every year that are a mess to find, especially on Thursdays and Fridays. I understand most people don't care and just want to throw it on the TV so they can take a Saturday afternoon nap, but for those of us who do want to watch more, the barrier to entry is bizarrely high. I can't stand soccer and even I know how/when/what channel to find the European matches on. There's no reason the PGA Tour should be so scattershot with their TV coverage. People lament all the power Roger Goodell and the owners have in the NFL but they run a heckuva league. The NCAA and PGA Tour should take notes.
