Vederian lowe
vikes trade vederian lowe to Patriots for a 6th rd draft pick. why? do we hsve do many good OL backups? must be part of a bigger plan.
I thought he was maybe our best backup. On a group lacking depth, strange move...
strange wow kewi is in over his head

IIRC we had renegotiated his salary so is this just getting more cap room? How much? 3M? And we got back a 6th. BFD. Does it mean more room to renegotiate JJ or Hock? But why Vederian? Others are more expendable. It’s a mystery.
Now we have 8 draft picks before trading our first rounder in 24. Could very well end up with 10 picks once we move back. Perhaps in 2024 we can draft a player in the 6th or 7th round and he actually makes the team. It sure seems that's been the goal the last few years.

Lol. Maybe a call to Risner is on the to do list?

Either they prefer Udoh over Lowe or no team was giving up a pick for Udoh.
Getting a 6th rounder back for a 6th round fringe tackle isn't bad. But the only reason they were able to get anything at all is because Lowe actually played fairly well this preseason. So we could end up regretting this if Lowe develops into a starter in New England, which wouldn't be too surprising considering Riley Reiff is their starting RT.
Vikings must have liked Udoh's experience and versatility to play both sides and guard.

I don't know quite how it works but Udoh deals is one where only a portion of his salary is counted towards the cap unless he is released or traded. So, Udoh is basically guaranteed a roster spot.

Udoh has been awful this preseason. I just watched the game against the Cardinals and he gave up a ton of pressures and we had to burn a timeout when he ran onto the field late on a field goal attempt. I thought he'd get cut for sure.

Yeah, he does need to go. Should of traded Udoh to the Patriots instead of Lowe...
Udoh was awful this pre-season, against non-starters too.
Somehow he doesnt do too bad in spot/emergency duty in the regular season. I'm ok with him in that role.

do we know that he was running out there for his own mistake, or was he simply trying to save the team a TO? those preseason games are a cluster phuk and especially the final one where they are basically throwing people in all over just to cover open spots. IIRC we saw a LB playing safety in that game as well.

I think the bottom line is versatility. Both Udoh and Brandel have played both left tackle, right tackle and both guard spots as well. I think Lowe was LT only. This allows the Vikings to keep fewer OLs since they may want to go over budget elsewhere, like at WR.

Don't know, just thought if it was his mistake on top of the pressures he's given up all preseason, that it was a bad look
I think we're getting our panties in a knot about something that frankly doesn't matter. So we traded a 6th rounder for a 6th rounder. I'd guess he wasn't making the roster if we were willing to trade him.

Agreed, it may be curious (but obviously not to the Vikings) but its really a low level thing.
Udoh proved himself last year. Brandel is capable. i like our line depth.

If we have to play Udoh at LT or either guard spot we are done. He has been pedestrian the last couple of years and really thought he would have been cut last season. I think Lowe has more upside than Udoh and they got rid of the wrong tackle.

Yep, I read that too. I think we save like 2 mil in cap space if Udon is on the roster but would take his full cap number if we cut him.I think like some others pointed out, this is probably a versatility thing with Udoh being able to play more positions as a backup. Lowe is still a long shot to develop and we got a 6th in return.
Not a bad move by any means. With Darrisaw on the roster, Lowe doesn't have a position where he could start immediately and we have Brandel, Udoh, and others to backup at LT, RT, and OG.
