Eagles released former 2nd round pick Greedy Williams. No, he's not very good. Flat out bust, actually. But here's what's intriguing. He's experienced (started 21 games), long (6-2, 185), fast (4.37), young (25), and cheap ($1.3M per).

Word is he struggles in zone, but is better in press man, which is what Brian Flores likes to do. I don't know that he would even make the team, but I do know we came very close to losing both Blackmon and Evans this week and this super young secondary could use some experience.

No, they never do, but we don't need him to be the player he was drafted to be. Just some experience at CB4 or 5. Thank God Evans and Blackmon are OK. If those two had gone down, it's pretty much season over.

That whole DB room gives me pause, starters & back-up's.

As of 8/20? I aint thumbing my nose at anyone.

They got a pulse? Can fog a mirror with their breath? Played pee-wee ball?

Bring em the hell in.

I know its just pre-season, but I had a bad feeling about this D in May and its getting badder. I dont know why Flores took the DC job up here with this level of personnel

I think that's exactly why he took it. There were pieces that don't often exist on a defense that just fired its DC. Flores mentioned Harry, Hunter, Asamoah, Cine, Evans and Booth.

In his mind, he probably thought if he could add some pieces--which he did in Davenport, Murphy, Pace--and improve that defense from 31st to, say, 21st or higher, that's going to look very good on his resume, and why he turned down a HC opportunity (as bad as it was) to helm our defense.

What HC did he supposedly get an offer from again?

Was it the Cards?  I might have turned that franchise down too with the decisions they've made the last couple seasons.

Yep, the Cards. A bad situation. Still, it was a head coach position.

I listened to a good discussion on Shelly this week on local sports radio...

Said that $ wasn't the reason they didnt keep him; rather Flores had a say in the decision and he may not have believed The Duke was a good fit in his scheme.

I suspect we'll never know for sure.

With Flores reputation for not being a great players coach and not getting along with players, any personnel decision made by him makes me a little skeptical.  Have very low expectations for him and his defense.

I wish I could remember where I read it but I did read that Shelly is buried in the depth chart with the Raiders.

Me as well. But lets not let that interfere with the legend of Shelley here in Vikingland, lol. One of the finest CBs in the history of the franchise and they let him go!  :p God forbid they wanted to UPGRADE the position.

I think it had more to do with they  had a CB that made some plays on D that they didn't have to spend a First or second round pick on.

Vikings offered 1.2. Raiders offered 1.3. So clearly the Vikings wanted to keep him, but not enough to spend the extra $100K.

I think it's mostly about scheme and fit. According to PFF, Shelly played best in man, a Flores requirement. However, Flores seems to like bigger corners, so I doubt he was pounding the table for a 5-9, 176 corner.
