McShay's latest - Viking pick Hooker at 23
I think we might have to move up for Hooker instead of just waiting/hoping he falls. Do your homework, have conviction and then go get the QB you deem worthy. They rarely just fall into your lap - Rodgers was an anomaly.
Todd McShay 2023 NFL Mock Draft: Hendon Hooker joins Darnell Wright in the first round (msn.com)
Hendon Hooker went just four picks later, landing at 23 to the Minnesota Vikings.
“Hooker is accurate to every level of the field but really thrives throwing deep. Some scouts might be wary of drafting a 25-year-old QB, but he has the talent to lead an NFL offense. I’ve talked to folks with a few teams that even have Hooker above Levis on their internal boards. He has interviewed really well this spring, and the tape is phenomenal.”The Vikings have become a popular spot for Hooker to land, and it makes a lot of sense. Minnesota is likely coming to the end of the Kirk Cousins era, and the veteran quarterback would give Hooker enough time to make sure he’s fully healthy coming off of that torn ACL.
Having a Viking Jersey with "Hooker" on the back would make me more than Ok with that pick. B)

Hooker is well above Levis on my board. He’s a great pick with a solid floor and huge upside. Levis on the other hand is a huge risk high reward guy. The type I prefer in 2nd or lower round.

Solid arm strength, good short to intermediate accuracy, but his deep ball floats and his ball placement isn't always the best. He can run a little like Geno and Dalton (in his early days in Cincy). I just don't see first round franchise QB with Hooker. He just doesn't have any special traits IMO.
I say this fully acknowledging that I have been wrong on QBs before... I just don't see any special upside with him.

I just think the transition to becoming an NFL QB is going to be easier for him than the others.
So many watch his '22 tape when he was hurt all year, his protection was shit and he was throwing to freshman receivers. He was much better in '21 with Wan'Dale and a couple drafted offensive linemen.
Diggs was a former 5-star recruit some of us liked in 2015. But because of a crap QB and some nagging injuries he just didn't have the production of some others and fell to the 5th round. Talk about a gift. Just think too many ignore the WHY in their evaluations.
Good point MB, there is a TON of disagreement on QB's this year.
It can make a fan skittish as history is littered with busts, drops and surprise future HOF's at the position.
you either gotta be smarter than everyone else or luckier. Then you better have a good surround or you'll destroy a kid's chances
Drafting a QB is NOT for the faint of heart.

Geno Smith is exactly the comp I came up with in my layperson review.

I would throw in Jameis Winston on the comp pile for Hooker as well.
If you want to continue to be a perpetual.500 football team with a journeyman level quarterback, then overdrafting Hendon Hooker and moving off of Kirko is your ticket to that reality.

Where I have a little bit of peace with it is that KOC is going to have the biggest say. I'm not saying he's perfection as a HC (or even OC), but he has an offensive football lens, is progressive and I liked the evolution of Stafford in their SB year and Kirko this past year too.
So he's got my trust until he doesnt.
What wouldn't surprise me would be them taking DTR in the mid-rounds. I think that's much more likely than any move up for Levis.
