That was my thought, but maybe the RB market just isn't there and now you have Zeke Elliot out there. I thought for sure he'd be gone or the only way he would re-sign is if they traded Cook. He is a quality backup though, so happy to have him back in the fold

Somehow I just don't see them keeping both Mattison and Cook on the roster.  Mattison already expressed he want to be a starting running back somewhere...and I don't see Cook settling for being a backup especially with his salary.

Teams with a big need at RB just aren't out there and now you have Elliott on the market and Austin Ekler being allowed to negotiate his own trade. Sanders just signed in Carolina. There are teams in the draft who are going to take a hard look at Bijan Robinson. So maybe Mattison just didn't receive the interest he was expecting and decided it wiser to re-sign with the Vikings who he is familiar with and has a role.

I saw this coming. Cook might stay for 1 more yr. tops, but Alexander fills an important niche, especially next yr.

Yeah that's true but the game is focused on high scoring. I know running backs score but the wear and tear takes a toll.

Yuck.  Basically Ty Chandler just got told he's collecting splinters again this season.  How will the Vikings know their young guys can play if they never give them a chance and just keep recycling mediocre vets because they're vets?

I dont think this signals anything.  Cook could still be moved or even cut.

I agree, not sure what it means. All the fanboy podcasters are so sure it means this or that, but unless you are privy to the Plan, hard to say.

I think it means a Cook trade is more likely now, but with plenty of money the Vikings aren't in any hurry and can wait for the best offer. Could be a draft day trade.

They could also just keep him, but I tend to think that Mattison wouldn't sign with the Vikings without some sort of signal from the team that Cook won't be there.

I agree, MB.  I was thinking they'd either keep Mattison or Cook going into next season, but most likely not both.  Mattison runs hard and strong and could compliment the shifty Chandler as a nice change of pace.  I fully think Cook will be traded now that Mattison stays.

I can believe Cook would be here anymore either, not after this.

FWIW Mattison is the youngest RB the Vikings have on the roster.

He is still only 23 years old, I believe.

It's weird, but I'm pretty sure Hunter was the same thing, they were both drafted when they were 20 years old.

IMO this was solid move

Even if it was a true false question I think I would have gotten that wrong 8 out of 10 times.
