Lamar Jacko
Baltimore put the non-exclusive franchise tag on him. Which means they can match any offer or accept 2 first round picks from the offering team.
He's easily worth #23 this year and our first round pick next year. The problem becomes fitting him under the cap along with Hock, Darrisaw, and especially JJ. Not sure we can do it honestly but in a vacuum-- 26 year-old Lamar at $45M versus 35 year-old Kirk at $40M is a no-brainer. If we found a trade partner for KC and got some picks back it miiiiight be feasible. This is the type of big swing many fans have been waiting for. Not sure if this is "our pitch" but it'd sure be fun right? The stands would finally be full of #8 jerseys...

I'm just a fan who knows squat but KAM should be speed dialing Lamar on repeat until he gets a price. And then he should probably pay said price, whatever it is. We'd be set at QB for the next 8 years and if Lamar gets hurt once or twice in that span that stinks, but you take your high draft pick and fortify. It'd be expensive as hell against the cap but get cheap at RB, shed Hock if you have to, and go win a bleeping ring before we faithful kick the bucket! At the end of the day that last part is all I care about, however they do it.
It would be nice to have a young mobile quarterback but its a pretty steep price to pay for one. Not only is the contract expensive but I'm just throwing this out there, suppose he suffers a Culpepper type knee injury everybody on this board would be bitching about the lack of a 1st round pick the next two years. Would we even be able to pay Jefferson what he is worth with a Jackson contract on the books?

But the current betting favorite for Lamar (other than him staying in Baltimore) is the Raiders who happen to have the highest paid WR in the league on their team. So while I agree it'd be tricky, where there's a will I think there'd be a way.
Baltimore is right for not paying him a fully guaranteed contract. I think you could fully guarantee 3 years but 5 is a lot of risk for a running QB. Especially if he's trying to top Watson's contract which it sounds like he was trying to do. If the market rejects his demands for fully guaranteed, I think it'd make sense to throw our hat in the ring. I also think this is just Baltimore's way of allowing the market to squash his ego and if they pay stupid money, then take the draft picks

The asking price for average or just above average QBs is insane. Baltimore by their own admission hasn't given Lamar the WRs he needs, but I don't see anything about him that sez insane Watson money, especially fully guaranteed.

Correct me if I’m wrong but hasnt Kirk won more playoff games?

both 1-3, Jackson making playoffs 3 of 5 years, and Cousins making the playoffs 3 of 11. That doesn't count Cousins going 3 for 10 in a loss his rookie year as a backup.
The Browns owner really fucked every team in the league with his ridiculous signing of Watson and the contract. There's not a market for a guy like Jackson for 2 first round draft picks??? Really?
Wow, who wouldn't pay two 1sts for Jackson? What the hell are the Ravens thinking?

I say send Kirko to Shanahan and bring Lamar to Eagan. And this from a pretty big K.Cousins fan.

It's bad timing because I'd like to see what year two in this offense looks like for Cousins--and that was a big reason why Wes Phillips declined the Chargers offer. He too wanted to see where this offense could go.That said, opportunities like this never happen. Jackson is 26 years old. There should be about 25 teams on the phone with Jackson's agent right about now.
People talk about trading two or three 1sts to move up for a college kid? A player who may or may not be able to play in the NFL. Another Rosen? Darnold? Winston? No thanks.
For a proven player like Jackson you pay the moon.
@"MaroonBells" said: Wow, who wouldn't pay two 1sts for Jackson? What the hell are the Ravens thinking? It’s only two first rounders if they choose not to match Jackson’s salary
@"AGRforever" said:True...and I'm guessing they probably match. But that has to be a little scary for the Ravens considering there are 10 teams with over $20M in cap space. Two with over $50M.@"MaroonBells" said: Wow, who wouldn't pay two 1sts for Jackson? What the hell are the Ravens thinking? It’s only two first rounders if they choose not to match Jackson’s salary
@"MaroonBells" said: Wow, who wouldn't pay two 1sts for Jackson? What the hell are the Ravens thinking? They’re thinking Jackson has overinflated ideas of his value and they can’t pay him what he thinks he’s worth and it could become toxic. They’re going to tag him because this allows him to negotiate on the market and realize that his true worth is closer to what the Ravens were offering, and once his true value is appraised, they can sign him to that contract.

Makes some sense. There are a handful of teams who could really use a QB who've come out and said they're not interested in Jackson, so ya never know quite what the situation is. Could be more to this than we know.
@"MaroonBells" said: Wow, who wouldn't pay two 1sts for Jackson? What the hell are the Ravens thinking? It's almost as if Steve Biscotti knew that none of his 31 fellow billionaire partners/competitors would give Lamar a huge fully guaranteed contract, even though some teams have said they would look at every option to bring in a veteran QB and other teams had already done such a thing. Weird. What coincidence. Definitely not a "gentlemen's agreement" to preclude competition. That would be collusion and could be illegal (I say "could be" because I assume the issue would go to arbitration and Goodell would get to choose the arbitrator).
