Hip drop tackles
The #NFL is planning to have an "active conversation" this offseason about possibly banning the “hip drop” tackles, according to NFL's CMO Allen Sills. pic.twitter.com/9g66NULgby

For fucks sake, how about we just ban defense, make the offense play with their shoe laces tied together and as long as they dont fall down they will be allowed to score.

Iloka has it pegged. How do you take some one down from behind?
STOP FUCKING WITH THE GAME. (Oh, sorry, forgot its not a game anymore, its “ENTERTAINMENT”
The NFL needs to spend far more time on the science of concussions and far less time on hip drops, horse collars and slide tackles. And the roughing the passer calls are the biggest joke in sports.

They can continue to work on better helmet designs, and the designs now are light years ahead of where they were 10 years ago, and based on how many more concussions we are seeing in the game today I have to think they are getting much better in diagnosing them now as well. I just think that the only thing that would significantly change the rates, or results of concussions would have to be how our own bodies protect our brains and I don't see that change coming for a very very long time.
I think its just part of a physical game.

Yes, that.
_onatell was just a few years ahead of his time.
This is really pretty simple, if you are a ball carrier and dont want to get tackled from behind, then dont get caught from behind, quit fighting for every single yard and protect yourself when they catch you, if you dont want your receivers getting blasted, then quit throwing to them over the middle or especially, quit throwing the ball high into coverage and expecting them to bail you out. I fail to understand how its now the defenses job to make sure the offensive players are able to play the whole game.
If they want to reduce major injuries, I think what they should focus on is eliminating "launching" at a player and just throwing your body into them instead of wrapping someone up like they use to do. With the size and strength of the players, it seems like the most serious injuries occur from a player carelessly launching their body into another as if it were some kind of missile.

Here’s who I’d like to hip drop…! ;) :p
