Chicago tells Bears.... not so fast!
Looks like the windy city is trying to make a bid to keep the team downtown. Not sure if this is the most financially responsible use of public funds in a town on its ass, but its not my tax dollars so....
In an effort to keep the Bears downtown, the City of Chicago has released a video showcasing its proposed $2.2B renovation to Soldier Field.

this looks pretty nice, but I see it being way over budget and way pared down from what we are being shown, once the union machine in Chicago gets involved.
Why isn't Chuck Foreman in the Hall of Fame?

I remember the story about how the workers buried in Hoover dam cuz they couldn't stop pouring once they started. Wonder how that story will play out in downtown Chicago?
And I thought they just renovated it a few years back. Or am I that old already?
I mean they already fucked it up

you are that old already. :)
Very reminiscent of USB inside.
Whichever stadium proposal makes the family the most $ will win.
Soldier Field with a roof? Dayum, that just doesn't sound right.

Will they still find a way to have a shitty field?

Why the hell wouldn't they? It's worked so well for them!
No mention of the fact that they are still land locked with horrible parking/tailgating area and are within city limits of ridiculous hotel/food/taxes. A destination area with more reasonably priced accommodations and restaurants with parking in the burbs with less headaches and crime makes another reinvention of Soldier Field a lot less inviting.
I thought Arlington Heights was pretty much a done deal. Did I miss something?

Chicago isn't in a good spot all the way around.@"mgobluevikes" said: No mention of the fact that they are still land locked with horrible parking/tailgating area and are within city limits of ridiculous hotel/food/taxes. @"mgobluevikes" said:a lot of our fans were done with downtown, but when push came to shove they all decided a new stadium was more important than the rest of the wants ( ie: parking, tailgating, etc ) I suspect that since the ownership in this case doesnt have LA to hold over the cities head, the fans know they arent in danger of possibly losing their franchise so would be less willing to settle than our fan base was, but none the less, if they ended up with that thing where soldier is now, they will be there.@"JimmyinSD" said:I think a lot of longtime Bears fans have had it with the city. Fans dont have a say unfortunately...
I lived in Chicago for a while and the more you try to figure out how deals get done, the more you realize that you don't really want to watch the sausage being made.
I'm sure that wherever they end up, the McCaskeys will find themselves smothered in finger lickin' good public stadium cash gravy.
