Apparently there was some disconnect between the Vikings equipment guys and the players over which cleats to use.  JJ was mentioned specifically.

I mean they were told about the field and the cleats were recommended but the individual players made their choices and ended up choosing their cleats. Dennis Ryan has been with the team since 1977. KOC said they sent messages to the players. So yeah sometimes you learn the hard way. Some players were changing cleats during the game. Oh well bet that won't happen again.

How the hell a professional team of professional players can't figure this out in 2023 is beyond me.  Are players that arrogant that they had to have "their shoes"?

Yes they are! The world we live in is a different place, and a lot of it involves people being “me first”

I know they practiced outside, wouldn't you want to practice in the cleats that would be best for the conditions at Lambeau?

Im guessing that is likely the disconnect,  they likely tried different shoes on the outdoor field in the cities, and found what they liked,  but those heated natural grass surfaces are different animals and can be manipulated and can change throughout a game,  the equipment staff likely made suggestions that were contrary to what the players had discovered on their own and went with their gut instead of trusting experience.

THIS - The “me first” mentality. see it every day.

just recently, people patiently waiting to get into the medical clinic before it opens, Karen rushes past those in line to be the second one through the door.  Nothing said to her.
but im sure her health concerns are more pressing than those who were there before her.

I hate some people

Yeah I get that Lambeau field gets wet and slick. I guess they fucked around and found out that Dennis Ryan knows what he is doing.

They should just put the cleats in their locker and that is what they wear, not sure why it is a choice, they could give them different options, but there needs to be a minimum of what is acceptable and that should be decided by the people who are the experts and who get paid to make those decisions.

and when an athlete claims that his ACL explosion was caused by an overly aggressive cleat that didnt provide the necessary give and decides to sue the team?   at some point you have to just say maybe its a learning thing and educations often arent free.

There's a choice because the cleats discussed are really long in comparison to regular cleats. Its unnerving to wear them, you feel like your foot will plant and stick. Seriously, if you put those long cleats on and were to jog on a field, you'd be like holy $hit this is crazy. I know this from experience with some athletes wearing them, me seeing them and actually putting on the shoes and I'm telling you.....its a scary deal to put on long cleats.

This. I think players feel they're risking serious injury with the longer cleats.

on the other hand,  i felt more nervous with poor footing than I ever did with better traction,   slipping leads to all sorts of twists and turns that arent intended, while solid footing made me feel in control and comfortable,  however one of my biggest injury concerns was not being able to get my foot out of the turf when tackled low ( some would say I should have been more concerned with the long term affects from head trauma )  so I certainly understand the dilemma.
