PHOENIX — Patrick Peterson's war of words against his former team now includes barbs aimed at quarterback Kyler Murray.
The Minnesota Vikings cornerback — who played his first 10 seasons with the Arizona Cardinals — said on his "All Things Covered" podcast that "Kyler Murray don't care about nobody but Kyler Murray."
The Cardinals quarterback took to social media to fire back at Peterson, saying "if you really felt like this as a "big bro" or "mentor" you supposed to call me and tell me, not drag me so your podcast can grow…"
Peterson and Murray were teammates during the 2019 and 2020 seasons, which were Murray's first two in the NFL. Peterson — who was a three-time All-Pro during his time with the Cardinals — has been openly critical of his former organization after he felt slighted during free agency, which led him to signing with Minnesota.
The Vikings beat the Cardinals 34-26 back in October, which Peterson relished.
"I've been told a lot of things about me from that organization," Peterson said after the game. "I got fan mails from the owner, saying I can't tackle. I'm old. I lost it. So, I wanted to go show them that."
Murray was the No. 1 overall pick out of Oklahoma in 2019 and had a successful first three seasons. He was named the NFL's Offensive Rookie of the Year and then was a Pro Bowl selection in each of the past two years. The Cardinals improved during that span and made the playoffs last season for the first time since 2015.
Year 4 has not been as good for the young quarterback.
Murray and the Cardinals fell to 4-8 on Sunday with a last-minute loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. The Vikings are one of the best teams in the NFL with a 9-2 record.
Murray signed a $230.5 million, five-year deal in July that keeps him with the franchise through 2028, making him one of the league's highest-paid quarterbacks at $46.1 million per season. That move was met with some controversy after it was found the contract included an "independent study" addendum which required four hours of study on game weeks, which is a rare request.
The Cardinals removed the addendum a few days later, but the damage to Murray's reputation was largely done.

Yeah, you know.....guys can say what they want, I guess. But sometimes I think they should just say less. Its probably true about Murray, but why talk about it?

Yes, I find Peterson a bit too much talk and not enough walk.  He has been decent, great a few times, but trashing your former teammate 2 years past seems low class.

As to Murray tho, I get the feeling he is on the Russel Wilson path.

Most of his yap seems directed at the Cardinals, he really hates his old team.

Agreed. If you have enough of a problem with someone where you want to talk about it, go to that person to talk about it, not social media or anyone else.

What if it's true?  PP played with the kid for two years and this wouldn't be the first time Kyler has been labeled like that...

Man, reading the board this year, we sure like to dog on our players...  PP ain't been that good (when he's been playing great this year), shouldn't be talking... Cousins contract is a problem (when the guy if finally earning his money this year), Harrison is old and should be replaced (that was my favorite before the season...  dude is playing some good football), Dalvin is washed, and on and on...

Like I said, its probably true what he said about Murray. But why does he have to say it? It's unnecessary. That's my only point.

But I do hear what you are saying about some of the comments on this 9-2 ride. Like I've said ad nauseam here: many times we are just too close to the forest to see the trees as hardcore fans. We are hyper critical at times. I've said this before, I challenge some on this board to take a Sunday and watch the NFL Redzone Channel if you can. You'll see plenty of mistakes, issues, challenges for other good teams, etc. Great QBs making boneheaded throws. Great WRers dropping passes, etc. It ain't just the Vikings. Bad defense being played around the league because the rules dictate it. I'm guilty of this also from time to time for sure.

If you read muh post, I said he has been decent with flashes of great.  He isn't great overall given the amount of points our D tends to give up.  And as Sticky said, it is likely true, but is it necessary?

McFadden was asking him questions about the Cardinals, their latest loss, etc and he responded with his thoughts.  It's not like he went on there and just started trashing Kyler Murray for no reason.

I feel like this happens all the time these days.  Someone’s on a show, gets asked a question.  They answer it, and everyone’s like “Why is this person starting shit!?!” It kind of makes you wonder why the teams let these guys go onto these long form formats, it feels like it goes against their corporate borg desire to try and control the narratives and whatnot.

NFLPA would never accept that kind of censorship, these guys should have the right to speak their mind.

Yes, but a professional should understand they don't need to make stupid comments about other players.

Exactly,   P2 is the veteran and really gains nothing by this IMO,  he should be the professional here and make some dismissivr non controversial comment and go onto the next topic.  I also have to think the questions are likely pre disclosed so he had a chance to avoid this all together. Imo this only could tarnish P2s image as Murray is already pretty much known to be an underachieving slacker.
