LOL. After one game. Where did they have them on Saturday? Pretty low I'd bet. 

Power rankers are lazy. I used to work at a newspaper and got to know the sports writers pretty well. Here's what they do: Look at last year's record, look at additions and subtractions, rank accordingly. They pay zero attention to the talent on the roster, injuries, various causes of success or failure, and if those causes are removed or remain.

A win over Chicago came the following week and then the Vikings had their "Christmas Hangover" game against O'Connell's Los Angeles Rams. By that point, the season was over until they scored a meaningless Week 18 victory over the Bears.
Back and forth. Up and down. The roller coaster never stopped. Some may say this is a product of Zimmer's toxic environment but a large part of the roster remains from that team.
The Vikings have a golden opportunity to buck that trend in Week 2. The Philadelphia Eagles are legitimate contenders in the NFC and a primetime matchup on the road is the kind of game the Vikings' routinely lost under Zimmer.
The old Vikings would have read too many of their press clippings and turned in an effort that would sink their season. The new Vikings may be different but we won't know until they take the field.
If the Vikings can turn in a similar performance against the Eagles, they could be on their way toward contention. They have two winnable games at home against the Bears and Lions. They have a coin flip game in London against the New Orleans Saints. A trip to Miami is daunting but if they can win in Philadelphia, they can win anywhere.
That would pave the way for the Vikings to go into the bye week at 4-2 and potentially 6-0, but a loss would reinforce the same concerns everyone had at the beginning of the season.
This is the challenge that O'Connell faces. If he can find a way to make the Vikings consistent, the narrative created with largely the same roster under Zimmer can be put to bed.

I don't think a loss to the Eagles is going to reinforce anything negative, unless its a shit show. Hell, I really thought the team would be 0-2 out of the gate. 1-1 is very manageable. Any every team needs to be consistent, not just Minnesota.

Vikings are #3 in the Herd Hierarchy. Colin loves Minnesota and has said as much for 4 months. Obviously, take with a grain as with everything....said they are a 12-13 win team.

I predicted a 2-0 start which would be a strong indicator in the ability of this team.

You have to like the chance of getting to 4-2 or better, particularly if you beat Philly in Philly.  I think this coaching staff won't allow for let downs vs lesser opponents, so Det and Chi at home, we will be favored to win.
New Orleans is a toss up and an advantage for Minnesota playing in London vs the Superdome.  Road game for both

Get out of the gate 4-2 at worst with two wins, maybe 3 over NFC contenders is a great start because the back half of the schedule looks favorable (last 8)

• Vs an out of the playoffs demoralized Dallas and New England squads (both looked terrible)
• 2 against the New York teams, two more non playoff caliber teams
• Chicago and Detroit, never easy, but we will be favored
• GB and Indy.  Seems like Splitsville
