Millennials were raised by the crotchety boomers crying about stuff like this. Maybe if boomers weren't the first generation of helicopter parents everyone wouldn't get a participation trophy.

100% this. Easy to forget that these kids are this way because of their parents. Smothers and Helicopter Dads rule the landscape now.
