At one point early in the third quarter, Peterson and coach Sean Payton appeared to have a brief, tense exchange on the sideline that ended with the running back giving his coach a long, intense stare.

He led the Saints in rushing and didn't fumble.  He should be kind of happy, don't you think? B)

Why did New Orleans even sign him?  i question how he will ever fit in this offense.

He had to be kicking himself for not being more appreciative here. I suspect if he had been, he'd still be the starter here.   It was time to move on....It was sad to see him in a Saints uniform.  I now wish him well, just not tonight.

Maybe they signed him for jersey sales and to add some excitement. I did see a few New Orleans Peterson jerseys tonight. That was very weird.

I have a sneaking suspicion he is going to be traded.

To who and why?  He was taken out on 3rd downs (because, contrary to all the press from New Orleans, he can't keep Brees healthy and is not a good route runner - he ran out of the end zone by 4 yards on his route tonight)

He was and is a great RUNNER.   This league needs so much more, and at 33, he can't be that to many teams.

Someone at some point is going to need a RB, Saints have absolutely no need for him. Someone will be willing to give something up for him if even a lower round draft pick. When I saw the death stare he had with Sean Payton it made me think this isn't going to work. I'd bet on NO looking to try to recoup something out of it.

I was glad we shut him down and yeah, he doesn't seem to fit with the Saints at all. Still, I wish him the best and hope he does well this season.

He did gt 3 yards a carry, 18 yards on 6 carries so there is that.

It's certainly possible...  I thought the Giants would have been a perfect fit for him in the off-season considering the state of their backfield and having a very good defense.  They could still be an option for a trade...

Plus Arizona appears to have lost David Johnson for an extended period of time.  Their window is almost shut and Arians is the type of coach that would push management to take a gamble like this...

It's not out of the realm of possibility IMO.

I could see the Giants or Cardinals as possible trade partners. I don't understand AD on that team anyway. Ingram and Kamara make a good combo for them.

I hate the stats that say he averaged 3 yards per carry,  because they dont tell the whole story, or even close to it.  just reading that stat would suggest that he was relatively effective and just not used enough.  however when you watch the games,  he has 1 decent run and then a bunch of drive killers or at least non productive plays.  he has been that way for a while now,  sure he will break off a 40 yard run once a game,   but several series of only getting negative or minimal gains really hampers what a team can do on offense.

it wasnt just our play calling that was making our offense 1 dimensional, it was being hamstrung by a future HOF ball carrier that never materialized as a complete RB and whose skills are diminishing.

It was kind of a joke. I mean 18 yards for the game. Seriously? I know it was time to move on. But it feels good to see how it played out last night.

He'll probably push to be traded to the Steelers this week, then the Buccaneers, then the Lions...
Sooner or later he might, might, stick it to the Vikings lol

I know, it was just a moment to rant on how misleading stats can be.  like stats accrued in garbage time,  they really dont do anything but muddy the water for evaluation purposes.

That's the thing any team considering him (including the Saints deciding how long to put up with him) has to guess, though: can he still produce the occasional 40 yard runs? Even if he does, how many carries do you have to give him before he comes through?

Last night doesn't help him get traded. I don't believe that coaches and GMs rely on MNF for player decisions, but I bet most owners watch it, and an owner will have to approve acquiring Peterson.

Why is it that this is even a discussion?  He is an aging back, who had too high a salary, has to come out on passing downs, and is not really about team concept.  He is about the impact he has on the game plan

He plays for another team, so we are not obligated to cheer for him or wish him well.  I, for one, was not looking for him to put up 1500 yards rushing after we let him go.  The Saints use of him speaks volumes.  The Saints were in the game in the 1st half, and they largely sat AP after the first few series.
