After struggling to beat Buffalo... I was shocked (in a good way) by this Gophers team. That was a DRUBBING. Rhoda didn't pass much, but unlike Leidner... he made big plays and was ACCURATE with limited opportunities. The Gophers offense will still be heavily reliant on their rushing attack, but it sure would be nice to have a QB that can make big plays AND also make the easy completions to keep drives alive. Too often Leidner would hit a 40+ yard pass to get us deep in our opponent's territory and overthrow a 5 yard pass on 3rd and 2 and we'd end up settling for a FG attempt.
I have no idea what to expect once we begin conference play, but Fleck is off to a good start. In another two years, he could have this program in the mix with the ELITE B10 teams...
